OH: Overheard
OH: Koscheck Agrees To B.J. Penn Fight
It's official! Actually, it's not official at all. Well, it's an official Tweet from Josh Koscheck. Does that even count for anything? Koscheck Tweeted early this morning that he's agreed to a fight with B.J. Penn. Yay! Am I the only one who's super jazzed about this fight? How have we never seen these two fight before? If nothing else I'm just excited at the prospect of BJ fight again. I've missed that adorable little Hawaiian! Should we talk about Koscheck's use of 'bra' or do we let it slide? I haven't decided yet.
UPDATE:
It was fun while it lasted. B.J. Penn said no.
OH: Junior Dos Santos Will Face Frank Mir At UFC 146
As part of the apparent fallout from Alistair Overeem's positive test result for performance-enhancing drugs, Dana White just tweeted that the main event for UFC 146 has been changed. Junior Dos Santos was set to defend his heavyweight championship belt on the May 26 event against Overeem but there has been a change of plans:
Taking off to Atlanta!!!! May 26 th is now Mir vs JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.
— Dana White (@danawhite) April 21, 2012
Alistair Overeem is scheduled to discuss his positive test with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on April 24 but apparently Dana and the UFC are not waiting to see how that turns out. This does, of course, ruin all the #rallyformarkhunt fun that everyone had been having. Frank Mir had also been often mentioned as a possible replacement for Overeem if one was needed and it seems that was a more palatable option for the powers that be.
OH: Rampage Jackson Is (Still) Mad At The UFC (Again)
Remember a while back when Quinton Jackson was all fired up about the UFC and how he wanted out? He went on the Twitter offensive explaining that he always took the fights the UFC wanted him to take but that the UFC makes billions of dollars off of the fighters and doesn't pay them like boxers, who make tons of money. He also indicated that he was not done with fighting but that he was done with fighting for the UFC. All that fun is recapped here. Shortly after all that, Rampage enraged all sorts of people by creating, starring in and sharing his not-really-funny-at-all rape video. It's hard to imagine that the UFC was pleased with that one.
Rampage seems to still be mad at the UFC, too, at least as evidenced in a tweet he posted just this morning:
I hear the UFC is spreading lies about me,hahaha funny, good luck getting anymore favors out of me,u never thanked me 4 the old ones.
— Quinton Jackson (@Rampage4real) April 19, 2012
I haven't heard the lies that he is referring to but maybe he saw the UFC's latest UFC 145 promotional video where the voiceover (Jon Jones) asks if just a catchy nickname makes someone a UFC athlete, while showing the shot of Rampage's name that you can see above. It would be hard to miss the meaning behind that one.
OH: Dana White Burns Ben Askren
Apparently Ben Askren likes to talk a bunch of crap. Who knew? In his desire to share his wealth of knowledge with the world, Ben tweeted yesterday in response to Dan White saying during the UFC on Fuel TV 2 post-fight press conference that it was not feasible for UFC to randomly drug test their 375 fighters.
In the interest of stirring up crap, thefightweek tweeted Dana White a link to another BE article to see what his response was.
To which we received a delightful response from Dana White. This really just made my day.
So what could Ben Askren's response be to such a burn? He must have put something really good. Right? Yeah, no not so much.
Lame. I'd say Dana White definitely takes the point in this round. As far as Askren goes, he must have made his peace with staying with Bellator for his entire career. Otherwise, I can't imagine why he would think it's a smart idea to bait the President of UFC.
OH: Twitter Fun With Jason Miller And Chael Sonnen
I love a good Twitter beef. This may not actually be a good Twitter beef but it's still kinda fun.
By now, we all know about Alistair Overeem's unfortunate pop PED quiz that it seems he failed with flying colors last week, much to the dismay of UFC fans everywhere. As expected, some fighters had some things to say about the whole ordeal and would anyone expect Chael Sonnen to stay mum on this topic? Despite Sonnen's own prior struggles against the man trying to keep his T/E ratio down, he just couldn't help himself and had to chime in about Overeem:
I'm shocked.. Has the body fat of a tooth brush, looks like the guy on STREETFIGHTER. My mind is blown, just blown.
— chael sonnen (@sonnench) April 5, 2012
Silly Chael. He can't just get away with attacking The Reem like that! So, in steps Jason Miller to defend Alistair's honor (or to at least tarnish Chael's honor):
Chael berating someone on their test level is like me making fun of someone's bad haircut.
— Jason Mayhem Miller (@mayhemmiller) April 9, 2012
This did not go unnoticed by Chael, who responded with:
MayHem: Due to time constraints I am currently confining my Twitter wars to active, relevant, fighters ONLY. Buy a T-shirt on your way out.
— chael sonnen (@sonnench) April 9, 2012
They're so cute. Now, let's see if we can squeeze a little more fun out of this one!
UPDATE: Miller recently responded with the following tweet:
. @sonnench don't worry-you're a beatdown away from obscurity. I'll be happy to beat your head in-that's if it's not still on a pike in Rio.
— Jason Mayhem Miller (@mayhemmiller) April 9, 2012
Keep up the good work, guys!
OH: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Tweets That He Wants Out Of The UFC
Quinton Jackson is known to be emotional, and after his loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 144, one can imagine that his emotions are only amplified. "Rampage" might be ruffling a few feathers with UFC brass after taking to Twitter with things like this, however:
Quinton Jackson @Rampage4real
I will fight who ever they put n front of me,I always have, but it will b my last fight n the ufc,I have other things on my mind
Quinton Jackson @Rampage4real
I didn't say I would b done fighting,I just said I'm not fighting 4 the UFC,(u fight cheap)I said I have other things on my mind (big head)
These were sent off just a few days ago. Today, Rampage was still on the warpath and had these gems to tweet:
Quinton Jackson @Rampage4real
@OldNickSuperchi the ufc makes billions off us all over the world,n pay us chump change! Boxers r boring but making buckets of money,THINK!
Quinton Jackson @Rampage4real"@OUnab: @Rampage4real Go Rampage! You're one of the best personality/fighter in mma history, the sport needs u!" @ufc said I lost my appealQuinton Jackson @Rampage4realWell I'm hoping the @ufc just let me go so I can do my thang, they took my love of fighting after the Forest fight! #bloodtypeBpositive
Jackson was also quoted that "the fight had nothing to do with it" and that he was simply "tired of the disrespect." Whether or not Rampage is going through another mental lapse, being overemotional post-fight, or is legitimately upset, Dana White and company are surely taking heed. More on this situation as it comes to a boil.
OH: Jason Miller Dreams About Ronda Rousey
In news of fun and saucy Twitter cuteness, Jason Miller tweeted today about having a dream about Ronda Rousey last night:
Last night I had a dream I slept with Rhonda Rousey, and now my elbow is dislocated.
— Jason Mayhem Miller (@mayhemmiller) March 5, 2012
While Mayhem offered no additional details on what else was happening in his dream, when asked by a Twitter fan if it was worth suffering said dislocation, he replied:
it was totally worth it @magpieperkins
— Jason Mayhem Miller (@mayhemmiller) March 5, 2012
Upon seeing Miller's tweet Rousey posted a reply of her own:
@mayhemmiller that wasn't a dream, i just put you to sleep first =P
— Ronda Rousey (@RondaRousey) March 5, 2012
This prompted Miller to respond:
don't fricken tease me with that @RondaRousey! If we were about to hump I would've hit pads and grappled for 10 minutes so I dont gas out.
— Jason Mayhem Miller (@mayhemmiller) March 5, 2012
They're so cute!
OH: UFC 143 Post-Fight Commentary From Fighters
What an interesting night of fights that was. I know I heard some complaints but I was thoroughly entertained by the fights at UFC 143. The main event most certainly generated a lot of tweets from fighters and there were a lot of other tweets throughout the other fights, too. Here is what everyone was saying.
