MMA You Want to Watch This Week
MMA You Want to Watch This Week 9/12 - 918
Well, here we go. Another week, another round of MMA goodness. And you know what's fantastic about this week? Every event I'm going to share with you this time around is free. Every single one. And free MMA is good. Free beer is good, as well, and so are a number of other things... but we'll save that for a different discussion.
Coming up this week, we have fights that threaten to shake the very foundations of fighter rankings across the globe, fights that are heavy with meaning and incredibly important in their respective divisions. Or not. Actually, there may be a couple of fights like that coming up. But there are also some that are just plain weird and others that are just plain fun. Experienced fighters and raw, untried kids. Life and death hanging in the balance. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!
Ok, I got a little melodramatic there, but no matter. You've still got a lot of good fights to look forward to this week. And they're all going to be available either on your television or computer screen. Sweet.

With all the fallout from the UFC 137 press conference and Nick Diaz's failure to show up at it, you might have forgotten that this weekend is going to be huge from an MMA fan standpoint. Saturday is the day, and there are 3 shows coming up for you to sate your craving for combat sports. We've got some big fights to watch, and a lot of potentially fun bouts to help ease the disappointment of not getting to see Nick Diaz vs. Georges St. Pierre. Cause that's a lot of disappointment. At least for me. I feel like someone just told me that beer is now illegal. But, I digress. Three events, one day, lots of MMA goodness, many opportunities to forget that an epic fight will now likely never happen. That's what this weekend has for us. And if you're on the west coast, the fun begins for you bright and early at 11:15am PT. Nice, right? A full day of MMA? You weren't planning on going out or anything anyway, you know you weren't. So read on!

Not a lot going on this week in MMA. No Strikeforce Challengers, no Bellator (though season five will be starting up soon, and we'll have Bellator every week again!). But we have a couple of events that should make both hardcore and casual fans pretty happy. If you had plans for Saturday night that didn't include watching some great fights, cancel those plans now. There are fights from around 6pm eastern on into the night, and whether you prefer the UFC or smaller shows, you are going to be entertained. And don't knock the smaller shows - I have seen better fights (more exciting and with better technique) at some local shows than some of the UFC undercards (Jason Reinhardt's last fight comes to mind).
Personally, I'm not leaving the house this weekend. This area is currently inundated with NASCAR fans all waiting eagerly to see a bunch of guys drive in circles for hours. For an entire week, it's impossible to get a table at a restaurant, get across town in less than an hour, or drive down the road without seeing people in lawn chairs holding up signs that say NEED TICKETS (though why they didn't think about that part before making a cross-country trip to get here, I have no idea). So I'm just fine with sitting at home enjoying some fights while these people turn the tri-city area into their own personal circus. Thank goodness for MMA.

It is, unfortunately, that time of year again... schools are back in session across the country, and summer vacations are staggering to an end. Well, it's unfortunate if you're going back to school. If you're a parent, however, this is a time of rejoicing and looking forward to several hours a day of peace and quiet.
If you're looking for peace and quiet, though, this is definitely not going to be a good weekend for you. But if you're an MMA fan (which you are, otherwise you wouldn't be reading this), you're in for a treat. There's a lot happening in MMA and some of it is even free! Read on for the juicy details...
MMA You Want to Watch This Week 8/1 - 8/7
Well, I know that a lot happened this past weekend MMA-wise, but I have to say that some of the biggest news for me was finding out that Che Mills (according to his manager) has finally signed with the UFC and will be fighting Chris Cope at UFC 138. I've been saying for awhile that DW should sign Mills and I'm totally psyched about this whole thing. Especially since the fight will be on a Spike TV card, and therefore free in the US. Good times!!
But, as wonderful as I find that news, it really has little to do with this week. The first weekend of August is upon us, and there is MMA in the air. Along with thunderstorms. And the sounds of cicadas. And oppressive, suffocating heat (I live in the South). Not to mention the smell of that one coworker who always forgets to put on deodorant, no matter how hot it gets. But, hope is in sight. There should be enough MMA action this weekend to distract us from the Hades-like weather and all of the accompanying inconveniences. Read on...

So, I'm really upset that I haven't had time to do much posting on the site lately. Because of that, I have decided to invest in a dinky little netbook that I can use to write while I'm not home, and can't have my laptop with me. If anyone has any suggestions for something fairly cheap but reliable, I'd love to hear it.
Ok, on to the good stuff. It's time again to see what MMA is happening on your TV over the next few days. And this week there's something pretty big happening. Or so I've been told.
You might have heard of one or two of the fighters that you'll see in action this weekend. They've apparently been doing this for some time, from what I understand. I think I heard someone say that one of these guys is like the greatest fighter ever or something. So he might be kind of a big deal in the MMA world. But then, so is his opponent. Yeah, I know, you're scratching your head trying to figure out who in the world I could be referring to, right? Right? So, read on...
MMA You Want to Watch This Week: July 18 - July 24
I know that all of you had sensed that something is special about this week, but you didn't really know what it was. Well, fear not! You're not crazy! You've just felt the happy feelings associated with Beth and Donna's birthday week! And, as a present, we have some actual MMA to watch! Thanks Bellator and Strikeforce! Too bad we'll be busy getting silly drunk seeing the sights in San Francisco to watch. However, I have no doubt that our gentleman will fight valiently to impress the birthday girls.

MMA You Want to Watch This Week 6/27 - 7/3
After a couple of crazy weeks of on-again, off-again posting, I think I'm finally back in business with this weekly post. Vacation is done, I'm settling in to a new job, and I can get back to letting you know what MMA goodness is lurking in your week. We're a little light in the fight department this week, but the one event we have coming up is looking to be a good one. So fix yourself a drink (I prefer a Black Velvet for my pre-lunch imbibing), get comfy, and prepare to learn what blessings the MMA gawds have in store for you this time around.
And if you find yourself unable to handle the awesomeness of the Black Velvet, a Mimosa or even a Bloody Mary is perfectly acceptable as a substitute. If, that is, you find yourself in a position to be drinking like that on a Monday morning. Personally, I find that early morning drinking is one of the biggest benefits of working graveyard shift. The look on the cashier's face when you're buying alcohol at 7am is absolutely priceless. Especially when you're wearing scrubs and a hospital name tag. Everyone just assumes you're on your way to work, rather than going home. Muahahahahaha!!
