Erin McDougall Defeated Tara Letendre by 1st Rnd TKO Last Night

Erin McDougall celebrates after her victory at Prestige FC last night.

Breaking News!!! Well, okay. It happened last night, so it's not still breaking. It's more... broke news? Either way it's news! Our favorite McDoogs - Erin McDougall TKO'd fellow newcomer Tara Letendre in the 1st round of their bout last night at Prestige FC. Erin broke the news after breaking her opponent last-

Don't ask me where I was 20 hours ago when this news was still of the "breaking" variety, because I don't know. I could have been double-fisting whiskeys in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl with the boys of Trivium, or perhaps making balloon animals at the homeless shelter a few blocks down the road. I don't know. But I do know where Miss McDougall was- winning her first MMA bout! And from all accounts, it was in dominating fashion. Way to impose your will Erin!

The search for the video as commenced, and not a corner of this crazy series of tubes we call the internet shall be left without upheaval until we find it.

Introducing The Erin McDougall Experience

For those of you unacquainted with the sheer bad assery of our lovely friend to the North, allow me to introduce to you Miss Erin McDougall. Erin has been a friend of GG2MMA for quite some time, and we have been a fan of hers for perhaps even longer. The Erin McDougall Experience  (her blog) is like virtual crack, but way better! It's FREE! Erin has been a long standing member of the Canadian Mixed Martial Arts scene. With her website, media connections, soon to be released clothing line, and fight schedule well underway, Erin has hyped, typed, and sniped her way to be a power-player of Canadia.

Never one to shy from showing her love, Erin was even kind enough to give GG2MMA a shout out during her most recent interview with MMA Addicts (which can be read in it's entirety here)

As for which fighter has the best tattoo, I don’t know that I can name a favorite! There’s a lot of really great work out there…. My girlfriends at galsguidetomma.com do a pretty awesome feature on fighters and their tattoos. They’ve showcased many different fighters, with different tattoos, that I didn’t even know existed! (Check the site out if you haven’t; my girls are awesome!)

Now that's the kind of stuff that makes you feel all warm and cuddly inside. Love feelings. Erin is making her MMA Debut next week at Prestige FC in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canadia against Tara Letendre on October 21st. In the week and a half to come, be prepared to be amazed as we dwell deep into the psyche of our favorite Northerner, explore her past fights, her delicious ink, and more! As a teaser, enjoy the following interview with the Lovely McDoogs and get ready to fall in lust love.

Watch Shayna Baszler Win By Twister...in 2008

People are losing their minds (and rightly so) over Chan Sung Jung's twister submission over Leonard Garcia tonight at Fight Night 24.  It was indeed pretty sick, and if Joe Rogan is right, it's the first time it has ever been used in the UFC. I imagine the Korean Zombie will be heading home with a Submission of the Night bonus.  However, we feel the need to point out that Shayna Baszler used this very submission three years ago (!!) at an EliteXC event against Keiko Tamai.  The video below shows the Queen of Spades get the win against Tamai with a twister early in the first round of their fight.  You can really see the stress that this submission puts on the spine and neck when you watch the video below, and I will certainly avoid being put into that position whenever possible.   Anything boys can do girls can do better, right?

Why should we care about Shark Fights 14? Carina Damm vs. Tara LaRosa

Last September, Shark Fights 13 rolled into Amarillo, Texas harder than a vengeful paraplegic down an elevator shaft with one of the highest profile shows outside of a major organization in MMA history. With a live broadcast deal with HDNet and near freight train momentum on their side, Shark Fights 14 was geared to hit the Red Horn State with another dose of rawesome. That is, until nine days ago when the CSAC reported that James "The Sandman" Irvin had tested positive for anabolic steroids following his December bought at Tachi Palace Fights, essentially squashing the much anticipated rematch with Houston Alexander scheduled for the main event.

Sadly, Shark Fights 14 has lost much of it's promotional steam over the past week, with many casual fans losing interest with the rematch between the two former-UFC stars was called off. But don't be fooled! Passing on this card would be a disservice to yourself, and to Women's MMA in general.

Carinna Damm vs. Tara LaRosa will go down tonight live and FREE on HDNet in the co-main event slot. For those of you who didn't just pee a little when reading that, be prepared to get giddy like a school girl! There's an hour before the event starts; so kick back, crack open a frosty cold beverage, strap on your favorite pair of knee high socks, and get ready to be hyped!

Everything you need to stroke the flames of your MMA desires is below the jump. Prepare yourself.

The Karate Hottie becomes the first female fighter on MTV's Bully Beatdown tomorrow night, putting the hurting on the show's first female bully.  Dang it... I might actually have to start watching this thing.  I haven't voluntarily watched MTV since the music went away, but Mayhem might just pull me back in.  Blast.  MTV has some pics of Waterson prepping to fight here.   The show airs at 10:30 eastern on Thursday nights.

Ultimate Women Challenge Looks Like It's Actually Happening

Ultimate Women Challenge Trailer (via pennyjomma)

The above video has actually been circulating for several months now, with hazy promises of a fall debut on NBC.  Now it looks like the show is really going to be aired starting sometime next month.  They have a website and Facebook page, sponsors and famous hosts.  There are 16 fighters listed as participating, including Angela Magana, who had to drop out of the Bellator women's tourney with an injury.  One of the hosts is even Bas, for gawd's sake.  But my feelings on this are mixed like a vodka martini - which incidentally is what I feel like I need after watching that trailer.

Not even Bas Rutten can make me feel good about a women's MMA reality show that has a trailer as crappy as that one.  In fact, after watching it, I am trying as hard as I can to understand El Guapo's involvement at all.  At least two of the fighters shown, Felice Herrig and Jessica Aguilar, aren't actually on the show at all, apparently.  And I had to watch the trailer several times to catch the names.  Stellar quality there.  Then there is the fact that all we saw was a little bit of kickboxing and there was NO ground game.

Maybe the show is much better than the trailer they've given us, and I'll come back after watching and apologize for being so harsh here.  Maybe my misgivings about how this is going to depict the ladies and the sport are completely unfounded, and it will turn out to be a good thing.  Or, perhaps the fact that I'm sick right now and in an ill mood anyway is coloring my perception of the trailer, and therefore of the show.  All of those things are possible.

So, what do you gals/guys think?  Does the show look like a disaster or a windfall for women's MMA?  Am I being too cynical and/or nitpicky?

Mega Megu, Jag Advance In Bellator Women's Tournament

     20090817-00000015-spnavi-fight-view-000_medium   Jessica_aguilar_facebook_medium

Last night at Bellator 24, the first two quarterfinal bouts in the women's 115lb tournament were held.  Victorious in their fights were Megumi "Mega Megu" Fujii (21-0) and Jessica "Jag" Aguilar (9-3).  Both wins came by submission: an armbar for Fujii and an arm triangle for Aguilar.  Fujii defeated Carla Esparza (3-1), who stepped in on less than a week's notice for injured Angela Magana.  Aguilar handed a loss to Lynn Alvarez (5-2).  Fujii and Aguilar advance to the semifinals; the third of the quarterfinal fights takes place Thursday, August 19, at Bellator 25, where we'll see  Jessica Pene (7-0) vs. Zoila Frausto (7-1).  The winner of that fight will face Aguilar in the semifinals.
