UFC On Fuel TV: Sanchez Vs. Ellenberger Main Card Play-By-Play And Discussion

The ladies and fellows at Gals Guide will be providing live play-by-play of tonight's UFC on Fuel TV card. The action starts at roughly 6:20 p.m. ET over on Facebook and will move to Fuel TV at 8:00 p.m. ET. We will have all the action covered from beginning until end.

The televised card on Fuel TV will bring us 7 fights. Two bantamweight collisions will start the card off as gritty veteran Ivan Menjivar takes on Ultimate Fighter Season 14 alumnus John Albert. This will be followed by fellow TUF 14 bantamweight finalist T.J. Dillashaw taking on the tallest bantamweight in the UFC, Walel Watson. Two prospects will make their sophomore efforts in the cage as the American-born Croat and former NCAA Division I wrestler Stipe Miocic battles British grappler Philip De Fries in a heavyweight donnybrook. Aaron Simpson will put his collegiate wrestling credentials to the test against Brazilian phenom Ronny Markes in Markes' debut at middleweight. In our co-main event, Stefan Struve and Dave Herman will try to provide us some fireworks in the heavyweight division. And our main event is a welterweight battle between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, a bout that will clear up the muddled welterweight picture.

Ivan Menjivar vs. John Albert

Round 1: Albert opens with a leg kick. Menjivar tries an overhand right and fails. Body kick by Albert and this is a fast pace. Bodylock by Albert and a few knees to the body as they disengage. Spinning backfist attempt nearly lands for Menjivar. Headlock turned into a takedown for Menjivar as we go into Albert's guard. Albert working a triangle, now omoplata. Menjivar circling and working elbows and hammerfists and back to full guard. Albert throws up a triangle, switches to armbar, now working for a leglock as Menjivar defends all three. Dualing heelhooks here with Menjivar standing and Albert on his back. Scramble leads to Albert in turtle position and hard knee to the body from Menjivar. Fight is standing and Menjivar blitzes. Albert lands a headkick with the foot and Menjivar is rocked! Thai clinch and knees and punches galore from Albert! Menjivar taking a lot of punishment and Albert jumps for a guillotine! Nothing doing and back to guard. Menjivar gets the back! Working on a rear naked choke, now ground and pound! Rear naked choke sunk in deep for Menjivar! Oh man, Albert taps! What an unbelievable comeback in a back and forth fight. Ivan Menjivar wins by 1st round submission (rear naked choke).

Menjivar said that he was wondering what Sakuraba would do during the entire fight in his post-fight interview. Good stuff there.

T.J. Dillashaw vs. Walel Watson

Round 1: Dillashaw opens with a superman punch. Immediately shoots for a sungle leg takedown and Watson is fighting it. High single is struggling but Dillashaw gets it momentarily. Snatches a double and puts Watson on his back. Tosses Watson to his back, not unlike a belly-to-back suplex. In the guard now and the action is very slow. Watson using his long legs to maintain control. Scramble and Dillashaw has the back! Dillashaw working on a rear naked choke here and Watson is defending well. Watson trying to turn into mount but Dillashaw with some nice top control. We move into half guard and Watson is working on a sweep. Dillashaw gets the back once again and the choke looks deep! Watson once again finds his way out and Dillashaw takes mount. Watson trying to scramble out but Dillashaw's top game is brutal, folks. Another rear naked choke here by Dillashaw, but nothing doing. Excellent submission defense exhibited by Watson. Transitions between ground and pound, position, and submission attempts here for Dillashaw. Watson taking some punishment here and the round ends. 10-8 Dillashaw.

Round 2: Dillashaw almost lands a brutal overhand right off a faked takedown. Dillashaw takes Watson down, who is attacking off his back in a nice scramble. Side control for Dillashaw. Working ground and pound while controlling an arm of Watson. Half guard for Watson and Dillashaw still in control. Watson needs some work on the wrestling mat. Scramble ensues and Dillashaw has the back again. Into mount for Dillashaw and working the ground and pound. Watson covering up and not looking good for him. Bucking from Watson and Dillashaw has the back, now the mount, now the back again. Ground and pound is constant and Watson is just getting pummeled. Rear naked choke attempt, but Watson once again defends. Dillashaw in mount and still pounding Watson. Watson covering up still. This is almost sad to watch. Okay, yeah, it is sad. Dillashaw stalls for a few seconds and then proceeds to land some brutal ground and pound. Watson getting hammered but manages to survive the round. 10-7 Dillashaw.

Round 3: Watson with a flying knee attempt and flurry. Going for broke here. Leg kick by Dillashaw. Watson surprisingly not looking gassed. Watson with a front kick attempt and an almost comical reach advantage. Dillashaw lands two hard punches but Watson eats them. Guillotine attempt by Watson as Dillashaw works a single! But Dillashaw gets into side control and I see a long round. Scramble and back to our feet. Circling and Dillashaw gets the takedown. On the ground and triangle and armbar attempts by Watson. Leg lock attempt and back to full guard. Dillashaw controlling on the ground and rear naked choke attempt for Dillashaw. Ground and pound to close up and a 10-9 for Dillashaw. 30-24 Dillashaw here.

Official Decision: T.J. Dillashaw wins by Unanimous Decision (30-25 , 30-25 , 30-26)

Stipe Miocic vs. Philip De Fries

Round 1: Glove tap and we are off. De Fries looks to clinch up and not happening. Overhand right for De Fries. Overhand lefts and rights landing hard for De Fries! Miocic calms down, shucks off a clinch, and counters De Fries with a right. Right uppercut and a laser beam of a straight right from Miocic and De Fries is rocked. Flurrying and a big right hand lands! De Fries is down and out! Done. Stipe Miocic wins by 1st round TKO.

Aaron Simpson vs. Ronny Markes

Round 1: Markes looks huge! Markes blitzing Simpson and hits with a big left. Simpson getting a Thai clinch and Markes trying to work a single leg. Body lock agaisnt the cage for Markes. Nothing happening here yet. Knees to the legs from Markes. They tango a little and Simpson almost gets Markes against the cage, but doesn't get it. Ref breaks them up and we are on our feet. Slow going here. Markes lands a nice inside leg kick here. Simpson trying to stay out of striking range here. Right hand by Markes. Combos for every punch Simpson throws. Simpson leaps in with a jab. Simpson lands a STIFF right uppercut and Markes is hurt. Ground and pound coming in a big way from Simpson. Markes still hurt, but we are back to guard and Markes is shaking off the cobwebs. Simpson landing a little, but Markes is slowly coming back here. Markes is on his back and Simpson is standing and trying to get in guard. Back to the feet here. Markes still looking a bit wobbly. Markes chasing Simpson down and trying to land something, but Simpson evading. Clinch up against the cage and we'll go 10-9 Simpson.

Round 2: Second is underway and Markes looking a bit more patient on the feet. Simpson looks for an overhand but Markes is working the leg kicks pretty well here. Simpson's legs are pretty welted up. Simpson takes an overhand right into a bodylock against the cage. Markes circles out and is chasing Simpson on the feet. Sharp lead leg kick by Markes. Simpson looking for something big here. Punches being thrown and a clinch in the middle of the ring is now against the cage in favor of Simpson. Markes once again gets out. Simpson goes for a body kick and an overhand. Back against the cage and Markes is now pushing Simpson against the cage. Markes looking for a trip or a Judo throw, but is turned back to the cage. Reversal again and Markes is looking for the takedown. Markes gets it and is now in Simpson's half-guard. Simpson looks tired here and the adrenaline of fighting in front of his hometown might not have been the best thing for him. Scramble leads us back to a clinch against the cage with Markes pushing simpson. Simpson engages the Thai clinch but nada. Slower round here and I'll go 10-9 Markes.

Round 3: Simpson whips an overhand right and goes into a bodylock on Markes. Stalemate here in the clinch and they disengage. Leg kick for Markes. Flurries for both do nothing. Straight right for Markes. Simpson wades in gets a bodylock. We are against the fence once again with Markes pushing Simpson against the fence. Referee separates the fighters. Oh, Nebraska refs...Anyway, not much happening on the feet. Markes still winning with leg kicks and Markes gets a bodylock. Smelling a split decision here. Just a hunch. Markes working foot stomps and the referee don't want no dadgum wall and stall. This is Nebraska, folks! Oh, the referee has a Bad Boy tattoo on the back of hi head. Overhand right for Simpson and an uppercut from Markes. Knee from Markes. Simpson shoots for the takedown but gets whizzered and we are back to the feet. Simpson shoots for a takedown and got rocked by glancing right hand? Maybe? Back on the ground here and Markes has Simpson's back. Markes pushes Simpson against the fence and gets a double leg. Back to the feet and Markes should take this 10-9. 29-28 for Markes, but it will be a split decision. Watch.

Official Decision: Ronny Markes wins by Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Stefan Struve vs. Dave Herman

Round 1: Dave Herman's hairyness is everything a man should aspire to be. This is so awesome. Fight is on here. Herman walking Struve down here and throws a right. Leg kicks by Herman. Head kick attempted by Struve. Herman gets inside landing a left and a knee to the body. Clinch against the cage and back to the standup. Herman gives no hoots about Struve's reach. Struve going for an overhand right. Body kick attempt by Herman. Straight right and left crack Struve. Body kicks traded by both men. Herman constantly walking Struve into the cage. Leg kick by Struve in the center of the cage. Lead left hook by Herman. Flying kick attempt by Herman! Herman blitzing and has Struve near the fence once again. Struve seems really uncomfortable on the feet still. Herman with a leg kick. Hook kick to the body by Herman. Herman eats a jab from Struve. Push kick by Herman. Leg kick by Herman. Superman punch attempt by Herman. Leg kick by Struve caught by Herman and Struve eats a punch. 10-9 Herman.

Round 2: Herman still the aggressor here in the beginning of the second. Struve working for combos and Struve gets a takedown! In the mount! Struve has Herman's back but falls off. Back to our feet here. Struve trying to work the jab. Herman with a straight right. Leg kick by Herman. Struve gets a leg kick. Leg kick by Herman. Punishing body kick by Struve. Herman winces. Leg kick by Herman. Three punch combo by Herman and some body kicks. Struve tries some punches but has nothing. Leg kick and straight right by Struve and Herman rocked momentarily. Cut under Herman's left eye. Struve is the aggressor and hits a nice right hand! Herman dropped with a right uppercut! Herman flailing on the ground as Struve grabs the full mount. Struve landing. And landing. And landing. Well, not really landing but Herman can't get out of the mount. But he is clearly dazed and Rosenthal stops it. Stefan Struve wins by 2nd round TKO.

Diego Sanchez vs. Jake Ellenberger

Round 1: They come out guns ablazin'! This crowd is hot for Jake. Both men winging punches. Both settle and are trading technical strikes now. Pace is slow and Diego eats a jab coming in. Right hand for Ellenberger. Diego tries to go in and Ellenberger swings away. Body kick by Ellenberger. Sanchez tries a weird jab. Combo for Ellenberger, but nothing landing. Sanchez eats a knee on a takedown attempt! Sanchez keeps attempting to come in and Ellenberger catches him with the lead hand. Flurry and both men land some solid shots. Head kick attempt for Jake. Leg kick by Ellenberger. Ellenberger with a takedown attempt, disengaged, and both men swing against the fence. Ellenberger pumping the jab and Sanchez goes high with a kick. Sanchez rushes in and gets dropped with a jab and a right! Wow. Sanchez back up and tastes another jab. Up against the fence here. Ellenberger with a right in a flurry to end the round. Good fight thus far. 10-9 Ellenberger.

Round 2: Ellenberger flashing the jab to start. Spinning back kick attempt for Sanchez. Pace has slowed. Ellenberger goes in for a clinch. Back to moving and head kick attempt by Jake. Dueling leg kicks traded. The jab of Ellenberger looks really efficient and crisp. So, we're throwing spinning sh*^ now, Diego?! Ellenberger's lead hand striking is a beauty as he lands a lead hook. Jab once again for Ellenberger. Uppercut attempt falls short for Jake. Sanchez is getting frustrated and lit up. Lead leg kick by Jake. Sanchez's face is looking busted...as usual. Right hook by Sanchez. Sanchez jumps in and clips Ellenberger with a right hook. Jabs exchanged. Diego throws a left that stays out too long and Ellenberger grabs a power double. In the guard now. Things could get dangerous here with Sanchez's grappling. Ellenberger showing good top control, but not much else. Sanchez working for armbars here but Ellenberger is moving too much. WICKED elbows and punches from the top. Ouch. Ellenberger slips in a few more to end the round. 10-9 Ellenberger.

Round 3: Ellenberger comes in aggressive to start. Nothing significant landing thus far in the third. Snapping jab by Jake. Diego not showing much urgency as he lands a leg kick and Diego stumbles. Pumping the jab. Right to the body for Ellenberger. Nice slip there. Crowd is chanting "Jake!" over and over. Really loud and passionate crowd. Ellenberger's striking is excellent tonight. Diego lands a right hook and eats one in exchange. Clinch and takedown attempt by Ellenberger and we are back to the middle of the cage. Clinch leads to a knee to the body of Diego. Ellenberger is cut right down the nose and he eats a straight left. Sanchez catching fire here with 1:30 left. Power double leg successful for Jake and Diego wall walks. Ellenberger attempts to take the back and slips! Diego now has the back and is landing weak strikes. Uh-oh! Ellenberger hurt and getting hit a lot here! Sanchez could steal it! Landing at will with 20 left! Sanchez working for a choke and landing still. 10 seconds! Ellenberger is out! Rock 'em, sock 'em robots to end and WHAT. A. FIGHT! Hot crowd, hot fight. 10-9 Sanchez for a 29-28 Ellenberger victory.

Official Decision: Jake Ellenberger wins by Unanimous Decision (29-28 across the board)!

Crowd explodes and this is a really great moment here.
