Chael Sonnen and WWE Superstar C.M. Punk to Enter Together at UFC on Fox 2
There is a constant argument over whether or not pro wrestling's tactics and promotion need to be in MMA. There is a also a constant argument over whether or not MMA actually uses these tactics. To me, the answer is "yes" to both questions. The overlap should be acknowledged, whether or not you like it.
I came over from pro wrestling to MMA after Brock Lesnar destroyed Min Soo Kim. A lot of people did. Needless to say, I grew out of love with Brock because his real personality was exactly arrogant and nasty like his pro wrestling gimmick. I grew out of pro wrestling and into MMA. However, I recently learned to appreciate pro wrestling again. Specifically after this promo cut by C.M. Punk:
C.M. Punk broke so many unwritten rules in the professional wrestling handbook with this promo. Firstly, wearing a superstar's t-shirt that isn't your own isn't something brass would smile about. Going to mention former superstars and promotions? Not good either. Talking about nonkayfabe contracts on television? Never. This promo absolutely melted my T.V. and brought me into the business of sports entertainment once again.
Anyone know anybody like this inside the cage?
Well, it seems that the two most prominent trash-talkers in the arts of combat (and simulated combat, although Punk has some MMA training under his belt) will be taking a stroll to the cage together. Chael Sonnen will have the current WWE champion C.M. Punk accompany him to the cage at UFC on Fox 2 in Chicago for his fight against Mark Munoz. Strangely enough, C.M. Punk is from Chi-town. Would Uncle Chael be willing to work some gimmickry into his pre-fight hype? Of course!
On UFC Tonight, Sonnen said that he would be determining who he would like to challenge for a belt, claiming he is "done" with Anderson Silva and his ducking. Perhaps Chael will be taking a run at C.M. Punk's belt?
