UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller Live Play-By-Play, Results, And Discussion

We here at Gals Guide will be providing live play-by-play and results for tonight's UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller card. Tonight's main event will feature lightweight contenders in Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller. The two will be battling it out to reclaim a top spot in the shark tank that is the 155 lbs. division. Also, we have some good main card wars as heavyweights Pat Barry and Christian Morecraft will square off. Both men have their backs to the wall here, as Barry has lost two in a row en route to his 3-4 UFC record. Morecraft is 1-2 and fighting for relevance as the underdog in this bout. Rounding out the main card, we have a lightweight slugfest Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer and a battle of bantamweights in Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian.

In addition to all of those exciting bouts, we have a slew of preliminary bouts on Fuel TV. To start us off, we have Joseph Sandoval taking on Nick Denis in a bantamweight fight. Following that, we have the UFC debuts of Pat Schilling and Daniel Pineda at 145. Fabricio Camoes will make his return to the UFC against newcomer Tommy Hayden. A lightweight clash between Charlie Brenneman and Daniel Roberts will be a battle for two fighters coming off losses. Kamal Shalorus is looking to rebound after a loss to main eventer Jim Miller against undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov. Finally, in in our prelim "main event," Jorge Rivera might be giving us his swan song against the gritty Eric Schafer.

Main Card

Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs. Christian Morecraft

Prefight: HD versus "World of Morecraft!" One of those is a real nickname and the other I made up. Figure it out. Morecraft has a 6.5 inch reach advantage. Something tells me he won't use it.

Round 1: Here we go. Morecraft getting too close inside. Barry throws a leg kick and immediately gets taken down. Morecraft takes the back and works for a choke. He now has mount and is applying pressure to Barry's neck. Barry gets up! Back on the feet and Barry sticks him with a jab. Leg kick almost turned into a takedown by Morecraft. Circling here and Morecraft shoots a double. Working a single now and Barry is down. Morecraft working an arm triangle and Barry pushes off the fence and is taken to mount. Barry now in an armbar! He gets out and we are back on the feet. Barry looks for the headkick. Barry lands a punch and Morecraft keeping his distance. Left hook and some follow up punches on the ground and Morecraft is down and out! Pat Barry wins by KO, 1st round.

Bantamweight bout: Mike Easton vs. Jared Papazian

Prefight: Easton looks MAD in his promo. He looks like he wants to come after Papazian's family. Scary stuff. But Papazian is a tough dude. We'll see what happens! Easton's walkout was intense. Good lord. Papazian is mean mugging big time. Oh man. Way to get me hyped. HERE WE GO, FOLKS!

Round 1: Easton coming out looking so fast. Thai clinch and they are going Frye-Takayama on us. Clinch up against the cage and Easton is pressing Papazian. Not much going on. Papazian with a short elbow and reverses the clinch. Clinch once again reversed and Easton is pressing Papazian again. And then another reverse. Short knees exchanged. And Easton reverses it. Now we are in a Thai clinch and Papazian lands an elbow. Back to the cage and Yamasaki breaks it up. Looping right by Papazian. Circling and leg kicks exchanged. Easton tracking Papazian down as he circles. Nice jab by Papazian. Looping right and left attempted by Papazian. Right landed by Easton. Great pace as expected thus far. Leg kick by Papazian. Easton trying to get inside. Left hand by Easton. Nice right and a knee by Easton. Easton going for a spinning back kick and misses. Left hook cracks Papazian but the guy is tough. Kick by Easton.Thai Clinch and we get knees and uppercuts exchanged. I'll go 10-9 Easton, but VERY close.

Round 2: Papazian flurry to start. Leg kick by Easton. Easton pressuring here and lands a left hook. Uppercut by Papazian. Easton maintaining a solid boxing stance. Elbow by Papazian. Easton lands an inside leg kick and a right straight. Papazian slips a punch and bodylocks Easton against the cage. Nothing doing here yet. Short knees exchanged. Easton attempts a reversal and gets it. Kneeing the hell out of each other. Papazian reverses and hand fighting going on right now. Yamasaki has seen enough and breaks them up. Leg kick attempt by Easton. Ineffective combos by both men. Papazian lands a nice right in a flurry and we are back to the clinch against the cage. Easton gets a trip takedown and is now in half guard. Working some peppering ground and pound. Now into side control here and Papazian secures half guard again. Papazian stands up and Easton presses him against the cage. Knee by Easton and Papazian attempts the samme. Back to our feet and Easton shucks a takedown to end the round. Ends up in guard. Close again, but due to the takedown I'll say 10-9 Easton.

Round 3: Crazy combos to start the round. Papazian lands an uppercut and Easton clinches against the fence. Trip attempt but Papazian pops back up. Papazian now holding the clinch against the cage. Yamasaki steps in again and Papazian doubles up on a knee to the cup apparently. Fight is back on and Easton attempts a leg kick. Papazian attempts a superman punch which leads to an Easton bodylock. Clinch against the cage and back to the feet we go. Easton working the body and lands a right to the face. Papazian working the jab. Solid right hand for Easton. Both men are just tucking their chins and going for it. Holy crap. Wow. They are fighting in a telephone booth. Clinched up and both men landing. Wow. Papazian is finding his home with the uppercut and Easton is working punches in bunches really well. Papazian is holding Easton up against the fence. Back to the telephone booth we go. Leg kick by Easton. Body kick by Papazian. Right hook for Easton. Papazian attempts clinch and gets cracked with a right on the way up. We are back against the fence with Papazian rocked for a second. Papazian controlling the clinch against the cage. Back to the feet and Papazian working the jab. Hits Easton with an uppercut. Left hook by Easton. Right lead uppercut by Papazian. These men are going to war! Papazian attempts a takedown at the end of the round, but nothing doing. WHAT. A. FIGHT. Solid, solid bout with a typical bantamweight pace. I'll go 10-9 Papazian there for 29-28 Easton.

Official Decision: Mike Easton wins by majority decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-29).

Excellent, excellent fight here, guys. Despite a lot of cage clinch, the standup exchanges were amazingly fast and brutal. Watch it as soon as possible. You won't regret it.

Welterweight bout: Duane Ludwig vs. Josh Neer

Round 1: Ludwig looking to counter to start. Neer gets rocked with a right hand. Bodylock by Neer and working for the ground. Ludwig almost gets taken down but stands up. Thai clinch by Ludwig and a knee by Ludwig. Neer taunts and comes forward. Jab by Neer and Ludwig counters with a 1-2 and a knee to the body. Ludwig with a left hook. Neer points to his mouth and ref stops to get the mouth piece. Back on and straight right to the body by Ludwig. Ludwig's counterstriking is nice. Clinch against the cage and Neer is eating knees to the body. Working a single leg and finally gets Ludwig to the ground. Ludwig pushing Neer away but Neer gets into Ludwig's guard. Pushing away and Neer snatches Ludwig's neck. High elbow guillotine by Neer and Ludwig is going...going...gone. Out. Josh Neer wins by 1st round submission (guillotine).

Lightweight bout: Melvin Guillard vs. Jim Miller

Prefight: Jim Miller comes out to CCR. Never ceases to bring a smile to my face. Guillard comes out to some dance music that I probably should know but don't. C'est la vie.

Round 1: Miller works an early combo. Flying knee attempt by Guillard. Another! Left hook lands for Guillard and Miller works a single leg. Thai Clinch by Guillard and a knee. Miller trying to work a body lock against the cage. Head kick by Guillard. Action lulls a little and Miller has regained his composure. Another headkick attempted by Guillard. Miller works for a takedown and runs Guillard into the fence. Miller working for it and eats a knee. Guillard lands a right hand. Flying knee and Miller takes Guillard to the mat! Half guard and Guillard scrambles, but Miller keeps the back. Working for a rear naked choke and Guillard is fading. Guillard going with the Superman grip and Guillard taps! Jim Miller by 1st round submission (rear naked choke).

What fortitude by Jimmy. Wow. Sort of sad for Guillard, but his mat work is AWFUL. Great night of fights and great moments! Thank you all for joining us!

Prefight: Jay Glazer is here to start us off. I'm in pain already, so it doesn't hurt as much to hear him. He is paired up with Stephan Bonnar for a pregame show. I personally like Bonnar in this role, but I'm sure people will find a way to complain. Just previewing these fights so far. They just announced that this will be Rivera's last fight, win or lose. Hope he gives us a good fight to go out on. Well, this should be good folks. You can here them and some production crew talking over the promos. Welcome to the Fuel TV era!

Jon Anik's mic is shaking like mad. Can't blame him, dude is probably excited. But he gets through the prefight shenanigans and sounds good. On to the fights we go, folks!

Preliminary Card

Bantamweight bout: Joseph Sandoval vs. Nick Denis

Round 1: Josh Rosenthal is your ref and we are on our way! No glove tap. Denis comes out with a blitz. Right hand landing at will for Denis! Denis Thai clinches up, smashes Sandoval's temple with three right elbows, and it is over! What an impressive debut! Nick Denis wins by 1st round KO (elbows).

Featherwight bout: Daniel Pineda vs. Pat Schilling

Round 1: Glove tap and here we go. Pineda pumps the jab and Schilling is looking for a takedown seemingly. Pineda's standup looks a lot more crisp. Pineda jumps in and eats a left hook. Leg kick by Pineda. Left hook hits Schilling behind the ear. Schilling clinches up and gets takendown with a bodylock. Pineda immediately passes guard into mount. Schilling looks overwhelemed as he gets his back taken. Pineda raining down blows and looking for a rear naked choke. Pineda secures a standing rear naked and Schilling falls! Schilling taps and it is all over!Daniel Pineda wins by 1st round submission (rear naked choke).

Lightweight bout: Fabrício Camões vs. Tommy Hayden

Round 1: Hayden looking to work the jab to start. Lands a leg kick. Camoes feinting in and looking to lock up. Camoes whiffs big time on an overhand right. Hayden looks for a double and thinks better of it. Hayden lands as Camoes works for a takedown and recovers. Camoes shoots and Hayden transitions to the back. Camoes looking for a kimura here as Hayden is looking to reclaim the back. We are back to our feet and Hayden looks composed. Camoes looks for a headkick but misses. Camoes hits with a knee but gets taken down with a double leg. Hayden wants nothing to do with that ground game and we are back up. Camoes ducks a headkick and tries to get an ankle pick. Scramble ensues and Hayden is working for the back. We end up with Hayden on top in half guard and he is not intimidated by Camoes at all. Camoes looking for an omoplat here but Hayden gets out. He is then ankle picked and Camoes is on top with Hayden trying to kick out! Camoes landing some nice ground and pound. Hayden is panicking and gives up his back! Camoes peppering Hayden with some blows and locks in what locks like a Gable Grip RNC around Hayden's neck and Hayden is fading fast. Hayden looks for the dreaded Team Quest fake tap. Hayden looks out of it...but isn't yet? Camoes finally locks in the rear naked choke. Hayden taps and Camoes has his first UFC win! Fabricio Camoes wins by 1st round submission (rear naked choke).

Welterweight bout: Charlie Brenneman vs. Daniel Roberts

Round 1: Brenneman lands a right to start. Roberts looks to flurry and gets DROPPED to his back on a double leg. Roberts looking for a guillotine but Brenneman stays in side control and keeps out of it. Brenneman working in half guard now and he is just grinding. Working a few head strikes and moves into side mount. Seems like Brenneman is working for a crucifix and he gets it. Landing some rabbit punches and elbows to the head. Roberts slips out. Brenneman looking for mount but ends up getting trapped in half guard. And we move back to side control. Brenneman looking for some positional Fitching. Robers looks like he has never seen a wrestling match, let alone worked on it. Brenneman on top and Roberts is looking to wall walk. Brenneman is not having that and we are back to full guard, with Roberts trying to work a rubber guard. Brenneman peppering with body shots and trying to just ride out the round. Roberts looks like he read a book on cardio authored by Mark Hunt. Brenneman attempts a slam but just drags Roberts down and earns the points. Bell rings and we have a 10-9 for Brenneman.

Round 2: Roberts looks for a headkick and then a sidekick. Brenneman catches it and works for a single leg. Roberts locks up a guillotine and Brenneman escapes to the far side. Half guard here and Brenneman goes with a few shoulder strikes. Brenneman with the foot on the knee and looking for side control, and gets it. But Roberts locks the half guard back in. Brenneman digging the shoulder into the neck and face of Roberts and uses it to get back to side control. You would think that if you are in the UFC you would work SOME wrestling. And when you train with Gilbert Melendez? Come on. Brenneman gets side control and is working for a crucifix again. Roberts is literally laying there and taking it. Brenneman secures the crucifix and is landing little punches at will. But we are now back in full guard and Roberts looking for a rubber guard. Herb Dean is imploring them to work but he stands them up. Roberts looking really slow. Brenneman pumps two right hands as he works for a single and Roberts is trying to lock in a kimura. Roberts landing some short elbows and punches that look as effective as Leonard Garcia's technical striking. Brenneman turns in and gets the single but Roberts looking for an arm, and now the back! Goes back to working for a kimura! Inverted triangle attempted for Roberts, but doesn't look tight enough. Round ends for another 10-9 Brenneman.

Round 3: Charlie fakes some punches and clinches. Gets the bodylock takedown and is immediately in side control. Taking a guess here, but he is working for a crucifix? Surprise! He is. But he loses it and is working some knees from side control. Right hands peppering Roberts here and the Spainard gets the crucifix again. Back to side control here and Brenneman pulling Roberts' left arm over his face and peppering him with blows. The Spainard is hopping from crucifix to side control at will and is now working the body with knees. Herb Dean has said "let's work" at least ten times. As soon as the fight gets to full guard, Herb stands them up. Roberts goes for the weakest single leg I've ever seen and Brenneman working a headlock. Roberts rolls through and we are back to full guard. Charlie locking up Roberts' arm and just stalling and waiting. Arm is released and Brenneman peppering with body shots. Open guard for Roberts to escape the futility that is trying to escape Brenneman's top control. Trying to work a kimura and it is deep, but Brenneman is in side control and the bell rings. 10-9 Brenneman for a 30-27 Brenneman on my card.

Official Decision: Charlie Brenneman wins by unanimous decision. (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

29-28? Uh, okay. Good lord.

Also, Daniel Roberts needs to learn something about wrestling. Like anything. Like go to a middle school wrestling match and learn something. I think a few of those kids might outgrapple him with their wrestling.

Lightweight bout: Kamal Shalorus vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Round 1: Shalorus walked into a Johnny Cash cover of "I Won't Back Down." Beautiful, sir. Fight is on! Both men keeping their distance and Khabib looks for the first punch. Kamal catches him with a nice left and looks for a takedown. Stuffed and we are clinched up against the fence. Knee to the belly by Kamal and we are back on the feet. Kamal going for his typical sloppy standup. Looks for a headkick and is blocked. Both men still keeping the distance and Shalorus looks for a left hook. Khabib has never fought in a cage before and it shows. Shalorus changes levels and Khabib goes for some weird flying strike that fails. Left lands for Khabib. Shalorus winging overhands and lands a leg kick. Khabib has his back to the fence. Shalorus lands a right to the body then sprawls on Khabib's takedown! BRUTAL LEFT UPPERCUT by Khabib! Shalorus drops and is bumbling on the ground and Khabib works for position and ground and pound. Shalorus working for guard but Khabib lands some punches and moves to side control. Kamal scrambling but Khabib still has the back. We go from guard to side control and Khabib still working for ground and pound. Shalorus just winging punches and we have our slugfest, folks. Back to the fence and Khabib is clinching. Khabib lands but wades in and eats a few from Shalorus. 10-9 Nurmagomedov.

Round 2: Khabib comes flailing in and Shalorus backs him into the fence. Khabib ducks a right hand and works for a takedown. Countered into a takedown attempt by Shalorus which is shucked off. Khabib gets a single leg and is pressing Kamal against the fence. Shalorus looking to push out here. Khabib working for position and moves into half guard. Back to open full guard and Khabib lands some punches to the head. Mario Yamasaki with a bad standup and we are back on the feet. Khabib looks for the shovel hook again and Shalorus gets ankle picked by Khabib. Nurmagomedov gets into side control and now into half guard. Shalorus has some pretty bad MMA wrestling right now. Khabib working for half guard. He seems to be be more comfortable from half guard and side control. Khabib looks for a choke, scramble ensues, and back to full guard. What ground game by this newcomer. And Yamasaki stands them up again? You are on a roll, Mario. Khabib looking to land the right and Shalorus slowly coming in. Weird jump kick by Khabib misses. Shalorus waiting and wading. Khabib lands some uppercuts and ends the round. Another 10-9 Nurmagomedov.

Round 3: Shalorus needs a finish here and is slowly trying to get inside to land some power punches. Khabib working for that shovel punch and Shalorus working for his looping punches. Shalorus works for the single leg and it ain't happening. Khabib gets hit by a few punches and gets sprawled out on a takedown. Works for another takedown and gets it, but Kamal is working for a futile guillotine. Khabib working the top and trying to get some ground and pound going. Nurmagomedov gets side control and mount! Working for a rear naked choke while Kamal is on his side! He gets the tap! Khabib Nurmagomedov wins by 3rd round submission.

Nurmagomedov looked really good against a tough veteran in Shalorus. Needs to clean up some aspects of his game, but expect big things here.

Middleweight bout: Jorge Rivera vs. Eric Schafer

Round 1: Jorge Rivera's last fight. Wish the best for the guy. Powerful, exciting striker. Good luck in your life after MMA, Jorge! Start off with Schafer looking for a takedown and Rivera looking for punches. Shocking. Schafer gets a takedown and Jorge stands up and gets tripped here. Schafer working from side control here and Rivera is just trying to stall him. Half guard here and Rivera gets the reverse! Whizzer here and Schafer is clinching Rivera against the fence here. Knees to body and working for the single. Rivera is down and Schafer is in half guard. Schafer wraps his arm round his neck and starts working some elbows. Back to full guard and Rivera is working for a sweep. Schafer starts landing from half guard but Rivera is doing a decent job at holding on to Schafer. Working close to the fence here and Schafer is scrambling for position. Back in half guard and Rivera ends up sweeping Red and ends up in Schafer's full guard. Schafer looking for an omoplata as the round ends. 10-9 Schafer.

Round 2: Rivera swinging for a right hand as the round starts. Schafer looking for a takedown and is stuffed. Up against the fence and still looking for a single leg. Lifts Rivera up and back down. Trying to ankle pick and Rivera cracks him! Schafer is in the fetal postion and is getting cracked! Punches as Schafer curls up and is eating punches. He isn't hurt but he isn't defending. Herb Dean ends it! Jorge Rivera wins by 2nd round TKO (punches).

Goodbye, Jorge! What a way to end your career on a slightly dramatic comeback. We wish the best for you, sir.
