I think its hard for BJJ guys
to not take positions that lead to being taken down. I wrestled with a kid in HS who came from a BJJ background and his instinct often put him on his back. Even looking a that last mount, Yuri jumped on while the fight was standing, against a stronger wrestler, he would have been put on his back.

Mario disqualified silva and said the strikes were to the back of the head. Joe got up there went thru the replay, basically told mario they were to the side. Mario stood by the decision, but added that he has to make the call in the heat of the moment and that he was telling silva “dont hit in back of head.” Joe told him those werent to the back of the head again. And im pissed bout it and sad for silva

I thought there were two to the back of the head
but a single blow to the back of the head cannot be the standard for a DQ. Most fighters, including Prater, bury their head to protect their face and invite hits to the back of the head

True, true. But all of the crap the refs are getting is ridiculous. Mo Lawal’s crap about Kim Winslow was ridiculous. I thought there were more, plus in slow motion there was also an elbow and forearm strikes. Either way the commentator shouldn’t call out the ref in front of a crowd.

I didn’t necessarily like the call, but you make some good points. When youre fighting at that level you have to recognize the ref and the fact that youre strikes might be suspect when the ref is yelling at you. I think a more experienced/mature fighter slows it down and picks his shots. i mean hiding the face is a legit form of defense.

Mario said he was telling him to “watch the back of the head” or something along those lines. I dont know how good silva’s english and that isn’t an excuse, but Mario doesn’t seem to have an authoritative way of handling a situation like that imo. he’s gotta be direct, really loud and speak simply.

oh no he wouldn’t, i saw that as well. They were all pissed and rightfully so. They understand the weight cut is a lifestyle in essence, not just 5-7 days before the fight. Dolce is making big waves with his teachings/trainings, which is cool. People dont realize how important one’s eating lifestyle is. The word diet basically means your’re eating lifestyle imo. It is also different with american fighters traveling to brazil. the food is different. it is hard to be mobile while there b/c traffic and what not. You have to know the area, have everything planned out a lot more. Forrest commented he couldn’t even find pepto bismol.

I don’t know i’ve wondered that for both rio events. For the most part (i dated a chic for awhile whose entire family was from there) they just like a good show. obviously they want their guy to win but if he is beaten in an entertaining fashion then they give the respect. you hear some booing pyle there but a lot of cheers too. the main thing of course is being respectful. if sonnen won there who the fuck knows what would happen
