UFC 136: Edgar vs Maynard III Preview (via UFC)
I gotta tell ya - I'm pretty excited about this card. I just hope my excitement doesn't curse it and make it not awesome. Edgar vs. Maynard II was a fight that I was pretty excited about but that a lot of people I know were very ho-hum about. And, that's fine because we got a really good table at my favorite sports bar and we were in for a treat.
In this video, Gray Maynard and Frankie Edgar discuss the very first time they met in the cage (when Graynard beat Fredgar giving him his only loss thus far) and they also discuss, in depth, their last meeting at UFC 125. We see how Gray almost finished Frankie in the first round but how Frankie made it through the round and came back even stronger. Gray did what he wanted to do in the fight but he had no idea how much Jersey toughness lived inside Frankie. Joe Rogan talks about it and you can see how much he enjoyed that fight. And, then we see Randy Couture talking about it, too, and he looks giddy. I mean, that was a really great fight. I thought the draw was completely fair because I couldn't say who I thought won it, and my like and respect for both those guys grew exponentially. I also like to pull for someone in a fight and I have no idea who I will pull for in that rematch. I may just have to sit back and enjoy it.
But, enough about me. We see when the fight is called a draw and how disappointed the guys are because they really left everything out there. And, Rogan talks about how rare that draw was, being in a title fight and all. Gray still seems a little resentful about the whole draw thing, which I totally get. Frankie talks about wanting to show how well-rounded he is and how he’s prepared for everything. And, we get to see Ricardo Almeida! Hi! Edgar says he wants to control the wrestling in this fight. They each think they can beat each other and they want to win it once and for all.
Other than the main event, this card features some other really exciting match-ups. Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian is one of them. Personally, I think Aldo has this without a doubt but I’ve been wrong before. We see how awesome Aldo is and then he’s talking and he’s adorable. Kenny gets to talk, too, and he admits Aldo is one of the best but he thinks he can do this because he’s becoming better every day and he wants to be champ. Rogan talks about Kenny’s accomplishments in BJJ and how he’s also become an elite striker now (especially with elbows). Aldo thinks Florian will not be able to keep pace with him. Florian agrees that it will be a "nonstop aggressive fight" and that it will come down to who wants it more.
Next we see about Chael Sonnen vs. Brian Stann, another fight I am really looking forward to seeing. Rogan says "there is no possible way this fight is not going to be an all-out war". Cool. We see Sonnen and Silva highlights, also cool. Sonnen talks – fun! The lighting makes his eyes look really nice. We then see Stann smacking himself in the face a few times. We see some Stann highlights and he looks pretty good, as I’m sure we all remember from recent history. Stann talks. He seems quite motivated. And then Chael says, "I am the world’s greatest middleweight fighter". Stann says he’s a better athlete than Chael and that Chael can only beat you one way. Stann says he will KO Sonnen. It’s more fun to listen to Chael.
