MMA You Want to Watch This Week 6/27 - 7/3
After a couple of crazy weeks of on-again, off-again posting, I think I'm finally back in business with this weekly post. Vacation is done, I'm settling in to a new job, and I can get back to letting you know what MMA goodness is lurking in your week. We're a little light in the fight department this week, but the one event we have coming up is looking to be a good one. So fix yourself a drink (I prefer a Black Velvet for my pre-lunch imbibing), get comfy, and prepare to learn what blessings the MMA gawds have in store for you this time around.
And if you find yourself unable to handle the awesomeness of the Black Velvet, a Mimosa or even a Bloody Mary is perfectly acceptable as a substitute. If, that is, you find yourself in a position to be drinking like that on a Monday morning. Personally, I find that early morning drinking is one of the biggest benefits of working graveyard shift. The look on the cashier's face when you're buying alcohol at 7am is absolutely priceless. Especially when you're wearing scrubs and a hospital name tag. Everyone just assumes you're on your way to work, rather than going home. Muahahahahaha!!
One lone MMA event this week. That's it. But if the fights are anything like what we saw at UFC on Versus 4, one event is all we'll need.
Saturday, July 2, 9pm, PPV
2 prelims will air at 8pm on Spike TV
Ok, so, I am absolutely crazy excited for this event. And I mean like excited enough to dance a little jig whenever I think of it (which gets me some odd looks when I'm out in public). Why am I so excited, do you ask? Is it because Dominick Cruz is fighting Urijah Faber for the bantamweight title? No, though that should be a great fight. Or maybe because George Sotiropoulos is fighting Rafael dos Anjos? No, even though I do love me some G-Sots. Maybe it's because Ryan Bader is going up against Tito Ortiz? No, not at all. I'm excited because Chris Leben and Wanderlei Silva are going to scrap. And what a scrap it should be!
I absolutely love both Wandy and Leben. I can't help it. They're both great. Now, there are going to be some other good fights on this card, I know. But Leben is simply not capable of having a boring fight, and neither is Wandy. This should be an absolute war and we all know it. The only downside to this bout is that one of them will have to lose. That part sucks (and I'm not looking forward to doing our predictions for this one, either).
Some of the other bouts to look forward to Saturday night include Dennis Siver vs. Matt Wiman, Carlos Condit vs. Dong Hyun Kim, and Brian Bowles vs. Takeya Mizugaki (the Bowles/Mizugaki fight may or may not be broadcast live). It's going to be a fantastic show and you know you want to watch it!!
