You Mad? - A Recap of this Week’s Beefs, Twitter Beefs, Squabbles, Rants, Wars of Words and Other Assorted Drama in MMA

Fight week for UFC 130 seemed to squash or at least overshadow some of the fightiness and bickering that we witnessed last week.  Thank goodness because I'm not sure I could keep up with that frenetic pace.  Fortunately, we still have a few things to discuss because, you know, it's not like there's any other MMA news to discuss today.  So, let's get to it!

Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans: This one's still here.  And, it's definitely getting stale but let's all keep current, anyway.  Early in the week, Jone Jones showed the folks at cagepotato.com a text message he received from Evans which called Jones "a fake ass white boy". Jones followed that up with a tweet saying that the text was 100% real. Evans then responded on MMA Weekly Radio and admitted to calling him this.  He further explained:

"But its not that I think being a white boy is a bad thing, its not against white people in general. Its an insult to him because he's not white, you can see where the insult comes in. That's the extent of the insult right there - its not an insult against white people, its that he's black and I'm calling him white."

Evans then apologized to anyone that was offended and said that many of his friends actually ARE white.  I think I even saw a picture that proved it, and I'm pretty sure it was 100% real.  Status: On-going saga.

Gray Maynard vs. Anthony Pettis: Gray Maynard previously made some comments, when asked, about whether he thought Anthony Pettis deserved a title shot.  According to Maynard, he had been asked about this A LOT so he decided to finally give an honest answer which was basically that he didn't think Pettis had faced a lot of high-level competition other than Ben Henderson.  Everyone wanted to latch onto this as Maynard talking trash about Pettis but this week Maynard seemed to throw water on this fire.  While he was a guest on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Maynard explained that he was just being honest, that Pettis is a tough kid, and that he isn't a trash-talker at all.  He further explained, "If the guy's an a--hole then I'll tell him he's an a--hole. But if he's not, then there's nothing to talk about."  Stop making me love you!  Status: Seems to be over and like it was never actually an issue.

Carlos Condit vs. Dan Hardy: This seems to be a beef completely is contained within the ambit of Twitter.  (And, thank you tweeters for airing your dirty laundry here where everyone can see it!).  Basically, Condit was asked by someone in the Twitterverse who he thought was a tougher opponent - Dan Hardy or Rory MacDonald.  Condit responded in 140 characters or less, saying, "Rory, because a young guy with something to prove is more dangerous than a guy who thinks they're the shit like @danhardymma".  Hardy picked up on this not-so-subtle Twitter dig and made his own 140-characters-or-less response to Condit and then they went back and forth for a bit.  It went like this:

@DanHardyMMA: @CarlosCondit hahaha! I never knew you were such a prick. Lightening doesn't strike twice mate. I'll find you again, don't worry.

@CarlosCondit: All the shit @danhardymma talks and u guys get upset at that. Dude tweets hateful shit abt me wile Im in the room with him, no tag of course

@DanHardyMMA: @CarlosCondit Thats because my followers know when I'm joking. Like I would actually stab you with my fork. I'd have to eat with my hands.

@DanHardyMMA: Don't get excited, @carloscondit wouldn't fight me again, its too risky. Thats why he turned a fight down with Fitch.

@DanHardyMMA: <in response to a fan> Hadn't given him a thought mate. He made a cheap shot comment earlier today. I think its his way of getting some followers.

Then they just seemed to stop so there's really nothing more to see here.  Condit also just tweeted mere minutes ago about Hardy, "I hope he does well in his upcoming fights, I'd love to do it again. Dan is a warrior and always comes to fight."  And, while this may be true, I'm not quite sure where Dan is getting the swagger to state that Condit thinks it would be too risky to fight him again.  Status: Seems to be over but there may be some hard feelings between them.

Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell: Nothing new has actually happened within their relationship but it seems like the animosity is still there and occasionally rears its ugly head as it did this week.  On this week's taping of "Inside MMA", Dan Henderson turned out to be the only guest. Tito was booked at 7 and Chuck was booked for later in the show.  Dan later had dinner with Jay Glazer, who is also Chuck's friend, and Dan told him he was going to be on the show with Chuck and Tito. Word got back to Chuck and he was upset because he didn't know Tito was also going to be on the show (although, later than Chuck).  So, Chuck bailed on the show and Dan Henderson got to talk for a really long time.  Status: Quo

Marika Taylor vs. NSAC, CSAC, Keith Kizer, etc.: As Chael Sonnen endures battles with the California State Athletic Commission and comes to terms with his suspension, he has one extremely adamant and vocal supportive who no one had ever heard of until last week.  Her name is Marika Taylor and she is launching a crusade to make things right for Chael.  After the CSAC hearing last week, Taylor went on a Twitter rampage, vowing to expose the flaws in the commission and have it dismantled!  She has continued her Twitter assault on CSAC, NSAC and Keith Kizer since then.  Some highlights include:

@MarikaTaylor: Four out of the 5 members of the Athletic Commission are insane. They grossly abused their power and must be held accountable

@MarikaTaylor: I will see to it that a formal inquiry is made and that these members are removed from their positions so help me God.

@MarikaTaylor: I have kept silent these past several months, but now I have to do everything in my power to get to the bottom of this fiasco.

@MarikaTaylor: While Kizer and CSACs plot to end Chaels career entirely was intercepted, they still managed to keep him from making a living on TUF.

@MarikaTaylor: I hope Chael sues the CSAC and includes Kizer in the lawsuit since he orchestrated the plan and got the CSAC to carry out his dirty work.

@MarikaTaylor: The same day Chael submitted an application for a license in Nevada, CSAC created new suspension from thin air. coincidence? I think not.

@MarikaTaylor: Kizer is childish, petty and unprofessional. He's an attention whore. Hes a wanna be gangster, a bold faced liar and as corrupt as can be.

@MarikaTaylor: Kizer prevented Chael from making a living, defamed his character, disclosed a private medical condition publicly and is a disgrace to NSAC

Taylor's Twitter account describes her as "Actor/Host and Producer of a documentary series about MMA fighters called Outside The Ring, with Marika Taylor."  Her website is www.marikataylor.com.  Status: Still fighting the power.

Chael Sonnen vs. Jason Miller: This one is pretty minor and you just know it's gonna be about the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter that will feature Michael Bisping and Jason 'Mayhem' Miller as opposing coaches.  It started on Twitter with @sonnench tweeting:

Comment on Mayhem how? In terms of his coaching contract, or generally not being worth the gas that brings his $.50 hair dye from China?

I buy a couple on "The Bachelor" before I buy Miller as a Coach. Ten bucks says that he brings Bisping a rose on the season finale.

Mayhem then responded with:

hey @sonnench please speak when you become relevant again. I have an even bigger steaming pile to smash named @bisping.

And, the last word from Chael today was:

Viewers: Prepare for the first season of TUF where both coaches speak English, and the show still needs subtitles...

That was about it.  Just a brief exchange that was marginally entertaining.  Status: Probably not done as I could see Chael continuing to mock both Bisping and Mayhem, but not really anything to get worked up about.  I just hope it's funny.
