Bellator Moving to Friday Nights for Season 6 in 2012

Photo

Finally.

According to the good folk at MMA Fighting, Bellator will be moving to Friday night for their Spring Season 6, starting on March 2. The season is slated to have five tournaments running, including the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, and the mysterious TBA weight divisions. In addition to all of this, two anticipated rematches for season 6 are set. The bout that has lost some luster known as Shinya Aoki vs. Eddie Alvarez will be contested, as well as the Season 5 heavyweight championship rematch between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos. To add to the excitement, we have a bunch of title bouts to pile on top of this. Eduardo Dantas vs. Zach Makovsky for the bantamweight strap, Pat Curran vs. Joe Warren for the featherweight title, Douglas Lima vs. Ben Askren for the welterweight belt, and the rematch of a Season 3 bout in Alexander Shlemenko vs. Hector Lombard.

While this is so great for a lot of fans, there is a minor bump in the road. Remember that little UFC deal with Fox? And that reality show The Ultimate Fighter? Well, The Ultimate Fighter is rumored to be airing live on Friday nights once it hits FX. And the UFC plans on running some Fight Night level shows and even their Ultimate Finales on Fridays on either Fuel TV or FX. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney says that his shows are "distinct from reality television like The Ultimate Fighter."

Even when Bellator makes a move towards winning, they lose. Such is the sad, double-edged sword world of Bellator.

Get Epix! Just kidding, I heard it is awful besides Bellator in HD. I’m used to it by now, although the presentation looks SO MUCH nicer in HD. The grey mat and cage in standard definition looks so sad.

you on bellators press release schedule?

I can make it happen. Say the word(s)

The bottom line is Georges is being a little bitch. He didn’t step up and say anything when the UFC pulled me out of this fight. I understand sometimes you have to do what you’re told, but why wouldn’t you tell the media you still want to fight me? If I was Georges, I would want to fight the best. I would have asked for the Anderson Silva fight. I would have asked to fight the Strikeforce champ. But he sits there like a robot and doesn’t say anything at all, just like he’s not going to say anything about me calling him a bitch now. If I saw BJ Penn walking down the street and called him a bitch, we would be fighting right there on the spot. — Nick Diaz
