DREAM New Year's Eve: Megumi Fujii to Fight, Sakuraba to Wrestle

Photo

According to the folks at MMA Fighting, there have been two more additions to the spectacular DREAM New Year's Eve (Genki Desu Ka!!, for those who want to get technical about it) card on New Year's Eve.

Megumi Fujii will attempt to add a third win to her recent winning streak against Spaniard Karla Benitez in a 115 lbs. bout. Fujii's hype train is quitely getting back on track after her split decision loss to Zoila Gurgel in Bellator, while Benitez dropped her last bout by decision. Despite the controversial loss, Fujii is still considered one of the best women's MMA fighters in the world. This also marks the first WMMA fight in DREAM history.

Additionally, we will see Kazushi Sakuraba compete on the card as well. Fortunately for fans of Saku, we probably won't have to see him risk an ear or body part in the process. He will be competing in a pro wrestling tag-team match, teaming up with former pro wrestler and current mixed martial artist Katsuyori Shibata to take on former sumo wrestler Shinichi Suzukawa and former judoka Atsushi Sawada.

For those who are clueless to these names, here is some background information on those competing in the tag team match. Shibata has amassed a record of 4-10-1 in MMA, with his only notable victory coming over Ikuhisa Minowa, better known as "Minowaman." Suzukawa was a popular sumo wrestler until being arrested for marijuana possession (a huge disgrace in Japan), thus dismissing him from the world of sumo. Sawada was a former junior judo champion who transitioned to Antonio Inoki's IGF.

Cant wait to stay up til the break of dawn for this event. JMMA still barely breathing wooo

God help me, I lusted, and there is a promise in such sweat. But it is a whore's vengeance, and you must see it; I set myself entirely in your hands. I know you must see it now.

Professional wrestling is just as hard on the body as fighting. I wish Sakuraba just gave it up.
