PrintChristiane Cyborg Santos. Over a year of waiting to fight and it lasts a mere 16 seconds. Absolutely destroying the former Dominatrix Hiroko Yamanaka. And now honestly who is next? People are clamoring for Ronda Rousey, and I agree at this point that is the most interesting and prominent match up. But, I think even she understands that Cyborg is not a typical female fighter. The vicious brutality is unseen in a lot of male fighters. Prominent strikers like Martin Kampmann, Michael Bisping etc... DO NOT have this vicious mentality. Not that I am comparing Cyborg to men nor am I pointing to fighting men being her next option. Well, actually I would pay 50 bucks for a Faber Vs Cyborg fight.
However, the truth is no body can even stand next to Cyborg in womens 145 division. Rousey knows this, that's why she's moving down to 135 to fight Miesha Tate. It took Strikeforce 1.5 years to find Cyborg a victim. Hopefully with the addition of Zuffa we can see Cyborg fight more frequently. But, fuck, I think we are going to see one of the longest, dominant eras of MMA. In 2030 MMA fans all around the world will talk about this beast of a women's reign on this division.
The most exciting move for me would be to have Cyborg cut to 135. This would give her some question marks that actually revolve around her and not her next victim. I believe that fighters are actually afraid to fight her at that 145 and her move to 135 would make fighters less afraid. And there would be no more "she's in a different weight class" talk. Cough, Tara La Rosa, cough cough, Miesha Tate.

I think with Zuffa/Dana on board they will find her a challenger before Fall, which isnt saying much but considering the year and half lay off. ITS PROGRESS.
A drop to 135 and continued dominance there would cement her as one of the greatest.

she cant make 135
145 is a tough cut. She has got it down now, apparently without issues, but she had issues early in her career. She has the technique down now…
But that doesn’t mean she isn’t a big fuckin 145er.
If she tries 135 I see one of two things.
1. She fails, loses part of her purse, destroys someone, and goes back to 145 shamed
2. She takes the time to cut muscle mass and lose at least 7 lbs (like 5% of her body mass in muscle- a LOT of loss) and makes the move to 135. The change in body type will leave her NOT the unstoppable power beast she is now, and she won’t be so dominant.
I’m thinking the first is more likely. She would have to imaciate herself for the first, and that would disgust me.
The bottom line is Georges is being a little bitch. He didn’t step up and say anything when the UFC pulled me out of this fight. I understand sometimes you have to do what you’re told, but why wouldn’t you tell the media you still want to fight me? If I was Georges, I would want to fight the best. I would have asked for the Anderson Silva fight. I would have asked to fight the Strikeforce champ. But he sits there like a robot and doesn’t say anything at all, just like he’s not going to say anything about me calling him a bitch now. If I saw BJ Penn walking down the street and called him a bitch, we would be fighting right there on the spot. — Nick Diaz
Sometimes I wonder
With all the talk of 145ers cutting to 135 (even big ones like Cyborg), Maybe they should just move the division to 140 so that they can combine talent pools.
They could do 140 and 125. That would keep people who weren’t completely serious about cutting from running down a division from Cyborg and would be more doable than having Cyborg cut all the way to 135. I’m sure there are a few 135s who could cut to 125 or they could bring in talent from other promotions. Having divisions that are inbetween what other promotions do would help with the depth issues.
I have thought that as well. It would be a little confusing, unless the Men’s division was like that. But, yes, I think that would be highly beneficial for all.

problems
Making a division for a single fighter is a bad idea. Ask Elite EX. Especially when in the youth of MMA when they are still trying to get everything generalized across the board- rules and weightclasses and such.
125 is a viable option. Nobody has the division pat down. You have a ton of great fighters at 125 (I think its the most stacked division, just that Strikeforce has 135 so people think that is the division of stackage) and it would be easy to institute the division really. I can see Strikeforce doing 125 and 135 and ridding 145 is Cyborg ever cuts the weight.
But making a whole new division for Cyborg, in my opinion, is insane.
