Nogueira Boxing Coach Has Issue with Non-Stoppage At UFC 140

As is somewhat expected, not everyone is happy with the refereeing in the fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir at UFC 140. The fight did end with a stoppage when Mir broke Nogueira's arm by locking in a kimura but Nogueira's boxing coach, Luiz Dorea, thinks it should have been stopped much sooner.
According to Fighters Only (via blog Por Dentro da Arena), Dorea feels referee Herb Dean should have stopped the fight earlier in the round when Frank Mir was clearly fazed and in trouble:
"Minotauro landed a sequence of attacks and left Mir passive on the ground, without defence and with his head downward taking more punches. He was passive. That was the signal for the referee to have stopped the fight at that time," he told blog Por Dentro da Arena.
"Mir was defenceless but not all referees behave of the same way. Despite the standard improving, there are still are fails in to MMA refereeing."
Had the fight been stopped at this point, Mir would not have grabbed Nogueira's leg and commenced the ground fight that ultimately resulted in a cringe-inducing arm snap and a victory for Mir.
The good news is that Nogueira's broken arm does not seem likely to require surgery. It appears to have been a clean break that doctors feel will heal properly on its own with just a cast and not a metal plate.

That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard.
The fact that Mir was able to win the fight by submission is proof enough that he wasn’t dazed enough for the fight to be stopped. Completely ridiculous.

How much is resting bonus? 20%? I’m always high and forget to rest anyways. Before I knew you had to sleep to get the dark brotherhood, it took my about 20 hours of gameplay before I slept and found out.

That anyone has accused Herb Dean of stopping a fight too late. Seems like every event he’s in he’s accused of the opposite.
i really like herb deans reffing.
Nobody is perfect, its a tough job. But he asserts himself very clearly before stopping fights or when someone breaks the rules, he will take points away when necessary too. He owns that cage. That’s needed in a good ref. Plus I can’t think of anything that he’s done that was just outrageously stupid.

I almost always think Herb gets it right. Best ref in MMA in terms of calling stoppages, even if people accuse him of being early now and again.

The only times I see ppl bitch is when he stops a fight where the guy isn’t intelligently defending himself but is fine once its stopped.
I don’t mind those. Herbs like “defend yourself. I’m gonna stop it” then stops it when they don’t defend themselves. Doesn’t matter if the dude is ok or not.
