OH: Miesha Tate Is Still Mad at Ronda Rousey
As was previously reported here, a bunch of other Strikeforce female fighters got very upset with Ronda Rousey's post-fight comments after her big win over Julia Budd at Strikeforce Challengers 20. Rousey said she wanted to drop down to 135 pounds and hoped to face Sarah Kaufman and then Miesha Tate once she got there.
Today Rousey made an appearance on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani where she was asked about her plan to drop down to 135 to face Kaufman and/or Tate. Rousey said:
"Style-wise I think I would do the best against Miesha," she said. "I think that a very good striker that has very good footwork and deals with distance well would probably give me the most trouble. But I think a girl with a grappling style like Miesha would be perfect for me, because I don't think she's better than me in any category."
Rousey further discussed the possible match-up with Tate and then discussed the marketability of a fight with Tate potentially leading to her getting a shot at Cristiane 'Cyborg' Santos and being generally good for women's MMA overall:
"I'm not dumb, you're not dumb," she said. "Really, if we push the 'hot chicks' to fight each other for a title, it's going to get a lot of attention. That's why I'd rather fight Miesha for a title instead of Sarah Kaufman. Because she's good looking and she's marketable. More marketable than the vast majority of the girls in women's MMA. I think that'd be a huge fight and it would lead to an eventual fight between me and Cris Cyborg being an even bigger deal. I'm just trying to figure out the right way to do things so us girl fighters have some job security a few years from now."
This was the part Miesha Tate seemed to have the biggest problem with. So, she took to Twitter to make sure Rousey knew that:
And, she didn't stop there. (More after the jump).
And, she's still going strong so you may want to check her out on Twitter (she's also taking on Ariel Helwani right now). So far, there has been no response from Rousey but Alexis Davis did get another jab in, too:
Oh my goodness. This is getting to be a bit much.

I don’t think it is wrong for a woman to be marketed on looks if she has the skill to back it up. Same reason why women fans root for GSP because a lot of them find him attractive. Ronda goes about marketing herself on being a.) a really good looking girl and b.) an absolute BEAST on the ground. I don’t think there is much wrong with that and Miesha needs to knock it off with the faux feminism because she has pictures of her in a thong floating around and does these modeling shoots.

Miesha definitely markets herself as being hot, too.
This is her Twitter background. I thought her comments were a bit ironic with this in the background (you can really only see the image on the left when you’re reading her tweets). I’m fine with both of them capitalizing on all their assets but it just seemed funny that she was calling someone else out about it.

I hope Ronda starts dating GSP or Jose Aldo, just so I can say that Ronda and blank are better than Miesha and…Bryan Caraway. Good lord.
And, in the end, looks don’t always matter. Cyborg is one of the most popular female fighters because of her power and athleticism. Good looking? Not so much.

And, I don't think people would be all about Rousey if not for those crazy armbars.

Exactly. And the fact that there are some pretty decent looking WMMA fighters that aren’t cared about whatsoever speaks volumes.

If you look at that picture, I’d say most of the girls in there are pretty attractive, sans one or two. I could point out for you Gina, Miesha, and Shayna Bazler. Shayna isn’t really marketable as a sex symbol, but the rest of those women are pretty attractive. I could not, however, name them for you without the label at the bottom.

Ronda is cute. But she’s not sexy. If she was an unknown in a crowd I’d consider her cute, but theres probably a hotter girl in the crowd.
Hoooweeeeever, add in all the Ronda personality I’ve absorbed and she is hot. Add in all the judo I’ve absorbed, and gawd damn! I’m in lust.
The bottom line is Georges is being a little bitch. He didn’t step up and say anything when the UFC pulled me out of this fight. I understand sometimes you have to do what you’re told, but why wouldn’t you tell the media you still want to fight me? If I was Georges, I would want to fight the best. I would have asked for the Anderson Silva fight. I would have asked to fight the Strikeforce champ. But he sits there like a robot and doesn’t say anything at all, just like he’s not going to say anything about me calling him a bitch now. She’s also in line to land a role as the direct-to-video sequel to Haywire named “Haywire 2 – The Haywiring”

I'm totally with you on that.
It wasn’t too long ago that people were bashing Miesha for her pinup style pics.

Kat,
I totally agree with you…I like Miesha Tate alot, but she is being way too hypocritical. I have seen 20 or more pics of her that “she had taken by photographers” that serve one purpose…market her sex appeal and good looks. In general our culture always tries to pretend like we don’t know “sex sells”…it’s fake to say it doesn’t.
So when someone like Ronda says what’s true. Meisha tried to take the “supposedly moral road”…No offense, why to you think beach volleyball and tennis have succeeded and the WNBA has not.
Thanks, Myles :)
Honestly, they’re both beautiful girls and that’s certainly not going to hurt the popularity and marketability of either of them. I think this was just a little bout of silliness.

Not by Miesha
no way man. Ronda said it herself, the girl that is going to give her trouble is one that has a strong punch, good footwork, and keeps her distance. I think a girl like Sarah Kaufman can give Ronda some issues, though Ronda would take it on the ground pretty easily. Marloes Coenen has the technical boxing to do the same, and even more ability to defend if it does go down. Meisha, however, is all about the ground game. Ronda is all about the ground game, but a whole different level.
I just can’t see Meisha having a chance. Everyone can proceed to hate on me now. ducks and covers

I like Tate alot but
her skillset matches up bad for her against Rousey, Rousey’s Judo is high level. I don’t see any woman stopping he ground.

Rousey is an Olympic level judoka. Tate wrestled in high school. Rousey should be able to plant her on the mat. I don’t know if she taps her out, but it wouldn’t shock me. Rousey and McMann are the next level of female MMA.

Wow
Ronda Rousy’s got some pretty foolish ideas. I think she has looked great in her first four fights but she’s mistaken if she thinks that WMMA will gain longevity by marketing fights based on looks.
MMA is a sport where there really is no difference between the men’s divisions and the female divisions, except that, at the moment, the amount of people participating isn’t as high and therefore the talent pool is smaller. In soccer, rugby, etc., female sports suffer from the fact that women are smaller than men and people would rather watch the bigger, faster men. That ought not to be a problem in WMMA.
By marketing female fights based on the looks of the fighters they would be delegitimising the importance of their skills and training. In the long run this will serve to prolong the view that women are wholly different from men and there for our viewing pleasure. I thought we had realised that was a silly attitude ages ago.
