Look Out for Falling Genius: The Gals' UFC 137 Predictions

Ufc_137_poster_medium

Wow! It's been soooo long since the last UFC event. Like, a year or something! Or, three weeks, but whatever. In any case, it is almost here and not without more than its fair share of main event drama on its pathway to fruition. We went from a Georges St. Pierre vs. Nick Diaz main event with the kicker co-main event of B.J. Penn vs. Carlos Condit, to a crazy swap (fueled by Nick Diaz's shenanigans) resulting in a Georges St. Pierre vs. Carlos Condit main event with a B.J. Penn vs. Nick Diaz co-main event, to the promotion of Penn vs. Diaz to headlining main event due to GSP's knee injury, with both GSP and Condit sitting out for this event. I'm exhausted from just typing that. We still have ended up with an intriguing main event that should be fun to watch, and a pretty fun remainder of the card, as well.

The main card for this event is available on Pay-Per-View and will take place on Saturday at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PT. The Spike prelims will take place on Saturday at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PT and the Facebook prelims are currently scheduled to begin at 5:50 PM ET/2:50 PM PT.

Here is how we think it will all happen at UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz on Saturday, October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Main Card (PPV)

B.J. Penn vs Nick Diaz

Beth: Oh my goodness. I really don't know where to go with this fight. BJ has looked less than stellar lately, but I get the feeling that he's back. Nick Diaz is going to want to make a big statement here in his first fight back in the UFC. What's a girl to go? Pick her shame dog's brother, of course! Diaz via Decision.

Donna: I am so excited for this fight I can barely stand it. Too bad I'll be Halloween partying it up while it's going on. This one is between what I want to happen and what I think is going to happen. Diaz by Decision.

Jackie: I think this fight is going to depend entirely upon which B.J. Penn decides to show up. If he's been focused throughout this camp and is taking this fight seriously, it's gonna be bad for Diaz. I do believe that Diaz is going to give BJ some trouble, especially in the standup. But since we won't know until the fight which version of The Prodigy we're gonna get, I'm gonna pull a result out of my ass, and say Diaz by Submission.

Kat: I completely respect Beth's shame dog-related pick here but I choose to reserve my own shame dog pick for a later fight (see: Cerrone). I think this will be a good fight and I think Diaz may be capable of beating Penn but I still think Penn wins it. Penn by Decision.

Midge: This is going to be amazing. I could be completely wrong here as fighters lie in pre-fight interviews all the time, but it sounds like Penn is in a zen-like state of Prodigy, while Diaz isn't very motivated. If Penn can come out and finish this, it would make his three fight Welterweight run result with two impressive stoppages, and being the only guy in the world not named George St. Pierre to not lose to Jon Fitch. I smell BJ v. GSP III (-: Penn by RNC

More picks after the jump!!!

Star-divide

Cheick Kongo vs Matt Mitrione

Beth: If I've learned anything in the last couple of years it's this: don't bet against Matt Mitrione. He looks better and better with each fight. While Kongo is arguably his toughest opponent to date, I think he's going to run right through him. Mitrione via TKO.

Donna: Mitrione is so much fun to watch, and he's really proven himself to be nothing like the doofus he played on TUF. Never a fan of Kongo, I'm going to throw my support behind the meat. Mitrione by TKO.

Jackie: Mitrione is always better than I expect him to be. And Kongo is usually not as good as I expect him to be. Well, except when he knocked out Pat Barry. But I really think that Kongo is going to win this just because he's got tons more experience than Mitrione. I'm gonna say Kongo by Decision. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Matt pulls a win out of somewhere.

Kat: After that Pat Barry fight, I sincerely believe Cheick Kongo has tricks up his sleeve. But, Mitrione has developed very well and has been looking better and better, and I think I believe in him. Soooo... Mitrione by Decision

Midge: Mitrione is going to whoop some ass. The UFC is bringing him along nice and slowly, and Cheick Kongo is the PERFECT next step after the Pat Barry fight. It rose Cheick's visibility with fans, yet showcased that he probably can't handle Mitrione's pressure on the feat. Mitrione's going to keep his face safe from hail mary throws and finish this. Mitrione by TKO

Mirko ‘Cro Cop' Filipovic vs Roy Nelson

Beth: I think this is Roy Nelson's last chance to win at heavyweight before he's shipped off to the fat farm and forced to fight as light heavyweight (if he's lucky and not just dropped). Fortunately for the fat farm, I think Cro Cop is going to take this one. Because I don't want to live in a world where Cro Cop doesn't win this fight. It would just be too sad. Cro Cop by KO.

Donna: I was under some sort of Nelson haze until his loss to Mir, and now I can see clearly. Unfortunately, I also know Cro Cop has lost his last two (sads!) and Nelson is going to be on a mission to win. Nelson by Decision.

Jackie: Well, if Nelson comes to this fight looking like he did against Mir, Cro Cop is going to destroy him. I just don't know how to call this one... I so want Cro Cop to win, and I'm so afraid he won't and will get cut for reals this time. Come on, Mirko, make a girl happy and win this fight! Cro Cop by Decision.

Kat: Roy Nelson said he'd have to cut his leg off to become a light heavyweight. That is something I don't want to see. I love Cro Cop and I think good karma is with him for singing with Pat Barry in a car and bringing joy to the masses. But, Nelson is not finished easily and decisions are not good for Cro Cop. Nelson by Decision

Midge: This is weird dude. If you would have brought up this fight, in this scenario to me five years ago I would have slapped you in public and shamed your family. This bout isn't going to sink in until Joe Rogan gets giddy like a school girl. Left Kick Cemetary

Scotty Jorgensen vs Jeff Curran

Beth: It seems to me that anyone Jeff Curran has faced with skills like Jorgensen has beaten him. I don't expect him to change the trend here. Jorgensen by Decision.

Donna: Jorgenson impresses me quite a bit, and Curran hasn't seen a UFC fight for 7 years. Curran probably has to win this one, but I don't think he's going to. Jorgenson by ...

Jackie: Good lord. Poor Curran. He couldn't beat Bryan Goldsby, and they put him against Jorgensen? Riiiight... Jorgensen by TKO (why not?)

Kat: I just think Scott Jorgensen is better so I'm picking him. Jorgensen by Decision.

Midge: I'm bummed they gave Jeff Curran Jorgensen for his return fight. That's nuts. It's like the UFC wants him to lose. Let's examine his last four opponents fighting under the Zuffa banner- Joseph Benavidez, Urijah Faber, Takeya Mizugaki, Mike Brown (pre-health issues). All of these guys were in the top few spots in the division during the bouts too. Harsh. Jorgensen by Decision.

Hatsu Hioki vs George Roop

Beth: George Roop hasn't impressed me at all. His only saving grace for this fight is that his opponent is a Japanese guy in his first fight for the UFC and I think we all know how that typically goes. However, I'm thinking Hatsu Hioki will not bow to tradition. Hioki via Submission.

Donna: Unlike my esteemed colleagues, I don't dislike Roop, but I still think Hioki is gonna kill it, submission style! Hioki by Submission.

Jackie: You know, Roop has had some good finishes, but Hioki has fought some hardcore competition and beaten them. Hioki by triangle.

Kat: I'm not that hyped on Roop. I think Hioki could do good things in this one. Hioki by Submission.

Midge: I am so excited for this, my nipples have been hard since Tuesday! George Roop, if your dangly ass ruins this for me.... *glare*. Hioki by Submission of The Night

Spike Prelims

Dennis Siver vs Donald Cerrone

Beth: Maybe if I keep picking against Donald Cerrone, one of these days he'll actually lose. Siver by KO in the first 5 seconds!

Donna: Ugh. Unlike Beth, I'm going to just give into the inevitable. Cerrone by Decision.

Jackie: Wow. I don't care who wins this. I just want to see it happen... as much as I don't like him personally, I always love watching Cerrone fight. And Dennis Siver is a joy to watch, as well. I guess I have to pick a winner though. I'll go with Siver via TKO, just because I have to pick someone.

Kat: This is where I apply my shame dog pick. I love me some Cerrone and I want him to win and call me "Darlin'". Don't get me wrong - I'm a Siver fan, too, but he is not my shame dog. Shame Dog FTW. Cerrone by Decision

Midge: Cerrone is going to be much larger. Taller, lengthier, stronger. I have absolutely no hard facts to back this up. I always pick against Cerrone because he annoys me, but I'm just going to keep it real today, Cerrone by GnP TKO

Tyson Griffin vs Bart Palaszewski

Beth: Talk about a must win for Tyson Griffin. Griffin has definitely faced tougher competition than Palaszewski....and lost. I'm seeing some time in Bellator coming up for Mr. Griffin. Palaszewski by TKO.

Donna: This one is easy for me. Tyson Griffin is blah, and Bartismus is PDOTW. Palaszewski by UD.

Jackie: I really have little to no interest in this fight. I'm going to pick a winner based on absolutely nothing... Palaszewski by UD

Kat: I don't like weight drops and Bart Palaszewski is making one here. I must pick Griffin. Griffin by Decision.

Midge: Griffin has started his run at 145 successfully, while Bart is beginning his. That first cut can't be easy, let alone when you are opponent is a better fighter than you. Griffin by Decision
