Bellator 31 Live Results And Rambling
It's time, boys and girls! Bellator in HD, right in front of me. Woot!
These should be some killer fights tonight. I'm super excited! Ok, mostly because Megumi Fujii is fighting. And Jessica Aguilar. Can't wait! Here we go...
Chris Lozano vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida
This is a welterweight bout, to qualify for next season's tourney. And the ref looks like Krycek from the X Files. You know who I mean... black stuff in the eyes, one arm. Yeah, buddy.
Round one: Both guys are moving pretty well, Yoshida moves in on Lozano immediately and they clinch against the cage. They're trading knees, while Yoshida looking for a throw. He finally gets it, and is in side control, but he's just holding Lozano down so far. Yoshida passes to half guard and is going for a sub. Lozano gets out and to his feet, and puts Yoshida down with a spinning elbow to the body. And another to the head, followed by a good kick. Lozano puts Yoshida down again with a good shot that leaves him on top and in side control. Lozano with good gnp, he lets Yoshida up and is still pounding on him. Lozano rushes in, they clinch then Yoshida gets Lozano down and takes Lozano's back. Lozano reverses... then Yoshida sweeps him. Crazy stuff. That's the round, I think Yoshida might have taken it, but Lozano beat him up quite a bit... who can say.
Round two: Yoshida right away with a good right, then he clinches Lozano against the cage. He takes Lozano's back but can't control him, and Lozano turns and they stand back up. They trade kicks, then Lozano with a knee to Yoshida's face, then two more! Yoshida is hurt, you can tell. He clinches again and goes for the td. Lozano reverses and is unloading shots to the body. Not real sure what Yoshida is doing other than holding on and getting hit. Lozano's gnp is pretty nasty and Yoshida is just kinda taking it. Yoshida sweeps him, he's in side control now but just holding on. Lozano back on top, more gnp, Yoshida is cut now. Another round, that one was pretty much all Lozano.
The ref calls time because Yoshida's eye is swelling shut. And looks like Yoshida's corner calls the fight! Lozano with the win!
Jessica Aguilar vs. Zoila Frausto
Ok, I really love Zoila, but Jessica Aguilar is with ATT. I universally love ATT fighters, just like I generally don't like AKA fighters. But if Zoila wins, that's ok with me, too. :)
Round one: (Krycek is reffing again) Typical feeling out process, looking for range. My hubby is making the comment that Frausto's hands look better. Aguilar with a good right, Frausto answers with a couple of jabs. Aguilar keeps moving forward, Frausto keeps throwing a left to keep her at bay. Lots of circling, trading shots here and there. Aguilar moves in now, they're clinched against the cage. Aguilar working for the takedown but Frausto defends it well, and they're still clinched on the cage. Some nasty knees from Aguilar, then they break. Frausto keeps backing up and throwing a punch or kick here and there. That's the round, I'd give it to Aguilar just from her constant moving forward and for the control against the cage.
Round two: More of the same stuff, Aguilar moving forward and Frausto circling and trying with a punch or a kick. Still trading back and forth but no real power or damage. More of the same, still. Frausto looks like one eye is swelling a little bit. Frausto also seems to be having trouble finding her range - a lot of her punches are missing badly. By the end of the round, Frausto is letting loose a little more, but still neither fighter is really connecting. End of the round, I have no idea who to give that to, unless Aguilar's constant moving forward makes a difference (and the damage Frausto was starting to show).
Round three: Both women look more intense this round. However, so far more of the same. Aguilar does manage a good shot, Frausto answers with one of her own. This is reminding me a lot of Guillard vs. Stephens this past weekend. Aguilar has bloodied Frausto up some, this round she might be winning the standup. She is connecting more this time around. Frausto shoots!! Can't get it though, tries again, and that's the fight! I totally give it to Aguilar, soley on aggression and damage. The judges take FOREVER to decide... split decision... Zoila!! Oh, man, they're booing her. Cretins. I expect better from a Bellator crowd.
Well, Jimmy Smith agreed with me - he thought Aguilar won it too.
Megumi Fujii vs. Lisa Ward
Ward is the one person that Megumi and Josh Barnett both thought would pose the biggest problem for Fujii. We'll see how this goes. Krycek again! Woot!
Round one: Trading early, some power shots from both women. Fujii is unloading like crazy, Ward is already bleeding from the nose. Fujii gets the td and into full mount. Fujii has her arm, and Ward taps!! HOLY SHIT! Fujii is 22-0, people!! 22 wins and no freakin' losses!!
They bring Zoila out to do the little 'meet your opponent' thing, and the boos start up. I hope you people all get speeding tickets on your way home tonight. Boo the judges, not the fighter.
Ok, time for some WEC now. Thanks for hanging out, guys :)

I have discovered
that most FSN affiliates are on Twitter. After sending some pleading/angry messages to mine for a couple weeks, they started showing Bellator again. I like to think it was all because of me, and not a simple coincidence. :)

Yes that’s what I need to do, bombard their twitters. But I doubt that Bellator will trump the Texas Rangers here. :\ Effing baseball……

If you’re vocal about it and baseball fans aren’t, you might make a difference, seriously.

So I imagine yes. It was only .2 lbs on her first try and she was smiling at the weigh ins so it wasnt like she would be stopped for health reasons…

yaaaay!
My shit internet prevented me from watching all but the very end of the fight and it looked bad for poor Zoila.
Did she kick ass at first then gas? She is cutting a lot of weight for this tourney

She spent the whole fight backing up and throwing the occasional kick and punch (and generally missing). How she won I do not know. I’m glad for her, but it kinda sucked too.

HOLY SHIT
According to a couple other sites out there today, this makes Megumi the first fighter in MMA to go 22-0!

I believe when he fought Lauzon, the UFc showed him as twenty something and 0. I know hes claimed to have 30 wins or so.
Too bad he isnt fighting. He coulda made 145 easy. Maybe 135 and been competitive

i'm going to take frausto at around a +340 imho over megumi. she has to lose sometime.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. The most hated and misunderstood person on the MMA blogs.. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.

If she can keep it standing, she has a good chance. That’s a big IF where Megumi is concerned, though.

haha
I’ll be honest man. Megu is such a better fighter. Her stand up is quite as good, but shes vastly superior in every other facet of the fight game. Everything. Period.
But shes so much smaller…. and Zoila is a better striker, and the size may allow her to keep it standing.
Megu is in for the toughest fight of her career, most likely. That or a quick cake walk. no in between

Frausto could easily catch her like she caught Sexton. Megumi isn’t going to stay back and pepper her with strikes like Aguilar did. I’m not sure that’s what will happen – but it’s possible.

Megumi will tire her out if it goes past the first or second
Megu wont get tired. She wont be cutting weight. If she pushed the pace and throws in grappling, which I expect…. she can definitely outwork Zoila to exhaustion

love the coverage
The Gals are the only site on the SBnation network that had coverage for Bellator! Well in my normal rotation that is.
Whoa didn’t know that Frousto was such a controversy. Match making wise it gives bellator some options on rematches outside of another tourney :D
Mega Megu! I can’t believe how she handled that. Super tight arm bar, oh man at that angle if she didn’t let go on her way down that could have been very nasty.
A.Silva you taking notes? That’s a how a pound for pound champ fights!
GGMMA is the best SBNation blog around
Hands down, Panties down.
Mega Megu is amazing. She would have snapped that arm if she didnt let go immediately. She’s the anti Paul Harris
