In addition, Dana White told MMAJunkie the following:
"What I expect of these guys is I expect these guys to go out and perform," White said. "Let me tell you this, and I mean it, we're writing some [expletive] checks tonight. We're writing checks – more than what you heard here tonight. Guys are going to get well taken care of tonight.
"Tonight was the greatest night of fights I've ever seen. There's going to be some happy [expletives] skipping out of the MGM tonight, I'll tell you that right now."
All in all, a fabulous night of fights yesterday. We were, of course, disappointed that Petruzelli lost, but hopefully, from Dana's comment above, his place in the UFC will be safe for now.
I'm not really surprised by the outcome of the Lesnar/Carwin fight. I knew that if Lesnar could make it through the initial Carwin barrage (which was brutal), he'd have a hell of a shot at winning the fight. I guess the major question was if he could make it through the initial barrage, which he obviously did. I will say that, now that Carwin knows what it's like to see a second round, if he adapts his game plan I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be able to beat Lesnar in a re-match.
Chris Leben with a submission win? I found myself thinking, "Did that just happen?"
The fight between Lesnar and Carwin cemented one more thing in my head, and that is the fact that the UFC needs a super heavyweight division. I see guys like Brendan Schaub, who is a huge dude in his own right, but he looks positively svelt next to Lesnar and Carwin. Thoughts?
Tweet of the Night - fightmagazine: Stephan Bonnar IS "The American Psycho." His fights are like metal symphonies on busted seven string guitars. Umm.....what?! I really have no idea what the hell this means.

wow... fightmagazine has gone full retard
Last night blew a lot of minds, and I guess theirs was one. A busted SEVEN string guitar?
Hey did you girls catch joe rogans diss on bonnar as he was walking out? Goldie says its always an exciting fight when when bonnar is in it, and rogan goes “well yah, why else would he still be in the ufc?” Burn.
On the weight class thing… both guys can make 265 so I don’t see a need to force them to move up. Heavyweight is fine at 265.
I WOULD love to see a cruiserweight division at 235. Guys like mir, cro cop, schaub, dos antos, velasquez can all hit. Then the true heavies like carwin, lesnar, herring, gonzaga, tush, madsen, silvia, bigfoot silva, overeem stay at heavy.
It would make 2 divisions that weren’t too great though, so I don’t see it anytime soon. Maybe in 5 years

Word up, Dana Dane, it was a great night of fights.
I was thoroughly entertained all night.
As Midget already stated, I’m thinking a super heavyweight division will be a necessity when more athletes like Brock come along. I’m sure there are tons out there but I think it’s going to take a few years for the majority of them to have the heart and crazy factor of Brocktimus Prime and Shane-a-Tron to actually want to get into the cage for a living.
Until that happens, I suppose we’re just going to have to see Schaub and other 245ers get manhandled by the super-heavies for awhile. However, I think it will make for a great story if or when a smaller man like Schaub or Cain takes out a 265 pound monster for the title. But I what wanna know is – when or will the American MMA game go metric, son?
RIP, Coach Wooden.
Thank you, Geoff Petrie.
American MMA will never go metric.
The US doesn’t like to assimilate to other standards, even if they have a logical basis. And since the UFC is the biggest and best MMA promotion in the world, they would expect other promotions to adopt their standards, not the other way around.
And as far as a adding in any more weight classes, I don’t think there should be anything above 265. Guys fighting above that weight will invariably have a deficiency in cardio and technical skill, and I don’t want to see sloppy, exhausted brawls. I think a Cruiserweight Division at 225-230 lbs is a good idea, but as yet there isn’t enough talent to make it a viable option. There would be plenty of guys to fight at CW, since anyone who weighs 250 or less could cut down to fight there. However, there is a lack of true HW fighters that have the skill and cardio to compete in that weight class. As the sport continues to expand, I’m sure we’ll find more talented, athletic guys that naturally weigh 255-270 lbs. At that point I think it will make sense to add in a CW division.

I thinknow that mma is getting bigger, we’ll see more large athletes go the route of fighting instead of basketball and football. Once the money is there the larger weight classes start to catch up athlete wise with the smaller ones (who never had the football/basketball options)

But do you think it’s possible that guys go to light heavy to avoid those at 265, and if a cruiserweight division was created, more guys would head there?

The problem is that these dudes that are like 240 is a near impossible cut to lhw, yet they are 40 lbs lighter than carwin in the cage. Its a shitty place to be.
A cruiserweight division would probably be more stacked than the heavyweight if they made it happen

I think that guys who are 240 lbs can be very competitive against bigger fighters because they should have an advantage in both speed and endurance. I see Brock/Cain being a very competitive fight because even though Brock is incredibly quick and has great cardio for a guy his size, I don’t think it can match what is possessed by Cain. If you look back at Fedor’s career, the guys that gave him the most trouble were the athletic and skilled guys approximately his size (i.e. Big Nog, Crocop) as opposed to the goliaths (Bob Sapp, Hong Man Choi, Zulozinho) he fought. Since there tends to be an inverse relationship between size and technical ability/stamina, I don’t think the HW division is as lopsided as many claim.

However, down the road when there are enough quality fighters to fill both a 230 lb and 265 lb weight class I think it should be added.

You know, after the previous season of tough, I thought the HW contenders were so awful that I was sort of soured on that weight class for awhile. But with Lesnar, Carwin, Nelson, Dos Santos and Velasquez, it’s definitely class that’s fun to watch.

TUF sucks ass
Seriously. I think kendall grove was being real when he says spike choses guys for their personality and not skills. Only schaub and big country were worth a damn on that season, and you know there’s much better hw prospects out there
Last season? Bleh.
Compare last season to season 1 when the ufc found the fighters! See? Tuf sucks now and that’s why their winners (exception roy nelson) have to be babysat once entering the octagon.
Did I mention tuf sucks?

I found it ironic that the one fight I expected to end in a submission (Sotiropolous/Pellegrino) went to decision, and the guys you normally expect to knock out their opponent (Leben, Lesnar) won by sub.
And I have to say it… I hate that Carwin lost, and I have seen fights stopped when the fighter was doing exactly what Lesnar was when he was covering up and Carwin was beating on him… BUT… Lesnar managed to come back and win in a way that really impressed me. There, I said it. :)

Someone in an interview said rosenthal was yellin “want me to stop it” and brock was yelling “no! No!” Back. Rosenthal is a good ref, have always been a fan.
Velsaquez is going to be a gooood line. Money maker

btw, regarding a nickname for George… my hubby and brother-in-law call him Northsouthiropolous, since he will move to north-south position at least once in every fight. I find that just as cumbersome as typing Sotiropolous, and still think we need a nickname for him. :)
