Dana White Sick of AKA's Bros Before Hoes Policy

This video was the first thing I saw when I woke up, leading me to believe it's going to be a great day!  We've been very vocal of our dislike of AKA's "Bros before Hoes" policy, and apparently Dana White is sick of it as well.  Love it!

I’m hoping Semtex makes it a non-issue

You don’t respect loyalty?

by madiq on Mar 29, 2010 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes

But not at the expense of their ability to be the best in the game. They act like they should just get revolving shots at taking out GSP, as if there are no other contenders out there. There are better guys coming up right on their heels (Semtex), so they need to shit or get off the pot.

Go Dana! Make these guys act like fighters and not fratboys!
(and is it an AKA rule, dear Fitch and Koscheck, that your hair has to look stupid, too? Oh, and btw, Fitch, your tats are lame.)

My friend and I noticed his barbed wire (I believe) anklet tattoo last night. My boyfriend said he’d rather have Lesnar’s tattoo than walk around with a permanent anklet.

I think that half of these people are just cheering for Dana, rather than standing up for some grand principle.

by madiq on Mar 29, 2010 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually

I’m tired of AKA acting like they’re so great they can choose who they will or won’t fight. I’m glad Dana is finally calling bullshit on the whole situation.

Ugh

I’ve never been impressed with Fitch. Yes, he wins fights, but I’m guaranteed to be bored while its going on.

by Donna on Mar 28, 2010 1:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I really appreciated Dana's comment

“That’d make a lot of money.” In response to Fitch saying “Yeah, we’d fight behind closed doors.”

Listen up Fitch. This is your livelihood. This is your job. The only way you get big money is if the UFC is taking in enough cash to justify giving you some. You fight the fights that you’re given. If you want another crack at GSP, if you truly believe you’re the number two, ranked over your boy Koscheck, then Nut Up or Shut Up!

by Bar Belle on Mar 28, 2010 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

Woot!

I don’t think any of these guys have anything on Semtex. They’ve all had their shot at GSP and failed to get him. The best they should get is the opportunity to fight each other, to find out who fights Semtex, to figure out who gets the next title shot. Did that makes sense?

by Donna on Mar 28, 2010 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

You think neither Kos nor Fitch have anything on Semtex?

I hope you don’t mean fight/skill wise. You may have missed this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKFvvY4JSb8

I like the Kos/Daley matchup because they represent each others’ biggest liabilities. Kos has an awful habit of striking with people he shouldn’t strike with and Daley clearly has some ground to gain in the grappling department. A win by either of these fighters does a lot to show whether they’ve plugged holes in their respective games.

I don’t think Daley has much on Fitch though, honestly. He’s probably one of the only people who can put Fitch out, but not many people can put Fitch out. On the other hand, I’m not terribly confident he can stop the takedown against Fitch. And Fitch doesn’t have the same regular case of the brain-farts that Kos has.

I guess I'm not much for watching the same guys get the title shot over and over

That’s why I liked seeing Hardy in there so much. Yeah, his only chance was to go for a big KO, but at least its not a fight we’ve seen before. Honestly, I don’t think that Semtex is going to get the jump on GSP either, but I’d rather see him get a shot than recycle the AKA guys back in there. I guess this is all speculation until we see what happens with Semtex/Koscheck. I would guess that the winner of that fight will get the next shot, but if Dana really is pissed off at AKA, then he may force the Fitch/Kos fight issue. I’d be curious to see what happens if they had to fight each other to get the shot.

by Donna on Mar 29, 2010 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you there

I think if Semtex gets past Kos I’d like to see him in a title fight. Kos has never had a title shot, though, and I think that’s different enough for me. He fought St. Pierre in his rebound-from-serra fight. He lost, true, but I think you can sell that. Kos is still a dangerous fighter albeit a bit of a fool.

That's true

My dislike of anything Koscheck often clouds my better judgement!!

by Donna on Mar 29, 2010 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

That doesn’t make any sense. Yes, it IS Fitch’s livelihood, and he has to look out for his best interest, not cowtow to what the guy on the other side of a negotiation wants. If Zuffa wanted fighters not to have the ability to turn down fights they’d have tried to insert it into the contract. But the fact is fighters get to pick their opponents, and if they choose to sublimate their wills, then they don’t deserve our sympathy when they get screwed. Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, and Mike Swick are ALLIES. They don’t succeed as individuals; they succeed as teammates, and they said that they’d ONLY fight one another if one was the champion. Zuffa can cut them, or choose not to pick up their contracts, or give them bad opponents, but as long as they keep winning, and Strikeforce remains a viable option for them if they’re cut, they have negotiating power. And in that situation, they’d be dumb to screw up the unified front by fighting one another, and undermining that negotiating power. Yes, Swick is coming off a loss, and he tends to be a Company Man, but he’s the weak link. I don’t see Dana forcing Swick to face Fitch, because it really wouldn’t be that competitive. So if Dana believes he could make substantially more money with Fitch-Koscheck than Fitch-Alves and Koscheck-Daley, he needs to pony up the dough, and make an Interim Title for them to fight over. If he won’t do that, then HE isn’t really interested in making that fight.

I don’t think Swick is a viable contender either. I think the question here would be Kos and Fitch. I think Dana’s been angered by AKA in the past with the whole video game thing, and so he’s less likely to deal with this situation that’s favorable to the AKA guys. I do understand that they’re allies, but they’re not being asked to fight each other on the untelevised undercard. This is for the championship, and there seems to be such an incredible amount of entitlement coming from that camp. Of course, I find Fitch boring as hell to watch, so I don’t really care to see him fight regardless.

by Donna on Mar 29, 2010 3:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I guess my problem is more with Fitch's comments about Koscheck.

You don’t want to fight your gym mate? That’s fine. But to then make the remarks that you feel he deserves a title shot over Hardy? What about yourself? If you’re willing to promote his agenda over your own, that I don’t get.

When it comes down to it, the best money he’s going to make is the big name fights. Yeah GSP is probably the biggest pay day he’s going to get. However, if you don’t fight the guy the other side of the table puts in front of you, you don’t get the big pay days. If he won’t fight Koscheck then maybe Dana says, “Well you’re boring to casual fans, how about the undercard?”

by Bar Belle on Mar 29, 2010 5:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Absolutely

Dana White doesn’t play and if he gets sick of your and your crap, you’re going to be stuck down in the Spike TV preliminary fights. I don’t think people are clamoring to watch Fitch fight. Koscheck maybe, but the consensus seems to be that Fitch is boring as hell.
