Want to Watch UFC 111 at a Movie Theater?

Ufc111_medium

The UFC has announced that they're partnering with Fathom Events to show UFC 111 at movie theaters across the country.  Sounds potentially interesting, right?  Well I just checked, and tickets are twenty five #@*!% dollars plus a service fee!  Holy crap, kids.  That is one expensive movie theater experience.  Do they charge extra for the sticky floors and broken seats?  I just don't see how this is going to work out.  I mean, you're probably not going to go by yourself, right?  So for two people you're looking at over $50.  Why the hell wouldn't you just get the PPV?

Are you willing to pay $25 to see UFC 111 at a movie theater?
Yeah. It's better than $50, and at least I get to be around other MMA fans.

It's just redonk.

When I heard that it was $25 I got a little pissy. If they don’t charge regular theater prices (which are ridiculously expensive anyway) I can’t see too many people doing this.

In San Francisco, the cover charge for most bars showing the fights is 20-25 bones (if not more). I’m not a huge fan of the environment in most of the bars that show the fights. Not sure if it’ll be much different in a movie theater, but it might be.

Another downside will be the lack of whisky.

Geez, I didn't think about cover charges

Most of the bars here do it for free. Who said everything is expensive in NYC!

I've traveled across America for a few months...

and thus had to find bars for…a lot of fights. Probably about 10. And each new place I’d get on my Google Phone and call around/drive around. It would either be that EVERYONE had a cover charge, or nobody did. It seems to be a local market thing.

Maybe its that some places not enough people come so they HAVE to cover charge to afford the show, and other places so many people come they make so much off drinks/food they dont need a cover.

Or maybe its that everyone used to charge, until someone in the local market gets desperate and DOESNT charge to get business boomin. Then one by one the places that charge have to stop in order to get anyone to come to their showing.

Or maybe I’m thinking far to hard on this and should have just wrote “I’d pay $25 for UFC 111 in IMAX 3D!”

Even a broken clock is right two times a day.

I've never heard of a cover charge,

but one bar I was at, I went with 3 friends, one who was our gracious DD. The rest of us ordered wings and several girly (read more expensive than beer) drinks and because of how crowded the bar gets, we showed up at 8:30 instead of 9:30.

Our DD was only going to be drinking pop for the night. The waitress said she had to charge him for refills unless the rest of us spent at least 20$. That’s the closest I’ve come to the cover charge.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE??

San Francisco will charge anytime it gets a chance. It’s a lovely little urban cosmopol, but it isn’t exactly cheap. There also isn’t a huge MMA following here. I’m sure pricing is better in San Jose, but I’m sure as hell not moving there.

Every so often our gym will get the PPV, and on those days, I am grateful.

Oh yeah, the covers are similar for big boxing events, too.

Ontario

Just 40 mins outside of Toronto. I’ve never gone to one of the TO bars for the fight so I don’t know if the big cities charge a cover. But if they did I’d take into account the 20$ cover plus what I was going to spend on drinks and likely end up buying it at home.

In regards to other MMA fans

I tried a new bar that was full of people wearing walk out shirts and were there early, they seemed really pumped for the fight.

It turned into a massive dbagfest. Lots of MMA wannabes who shouted really stupid things at the screen and I ended up leaving before the main events. So sometimes a mass crowd can suck.

Saw a comment somewhere that a bar showing a UFC event that’s filled with fighters is always really peaceful. A bar filled with Ed Hardy d-bags guarantees at least a few fights.

We won't

$25 per person at our theater, times the two of us = $50

OR

$44.95 at home. With no screamers. Except me.

Expensive date. Plus popcorn and soda…unless you’re a movie drinker like myself then it’s md20/20.

Where the hell did Dan Hardy’s stomach tattoo go?

They removed it from all promotional material since I think December?

If you go with thisredengine, he’ll have an ice cold bottle of MD 20/20 waiting for you. How could you resist such an offer?

I feel like you’re underestimating md20/20 in movie theaters. have you tried bad movie friday without it?

yo

I don’t know if its worth seeing for 25 dollars when your not even allowd to drink a beer in the movie theatre. I think maybe I will just catch the fight at Buffalo Wild Wings for free and maybe a few beers and wings. These fights are going to be great tho and I can’t miss this card. GSP is going to smash Hardy.

Yes, but you have to be careful where you watch these things. End up watching at a bar with a bunch of d-bags, and it’s fight central. I guess they feel the need to prove their manliness.

MD 20/20

Peaches and cream. Is this fight going to be in 3d like Avatar? That would be cool how about some bommers?
