What the Hell is the Rubber Guard?
The Rubber Guard is a technique created by Eddie Bravo, who is a certified BJJ bad ass. It gives BJJ fighters a way to hold down their opponents when they don't have the gi (the uniform of BJJ fighters) to grip onto. In case you didn't know, MMA utilizes a no gi style of fighting.
First, remember when we talked about full guard? Well, the rubber guard is used by the guy on the bottom. How it works is, the leg is used in place of one of your arms to hold the guy on top down. That way, your other arm is available for face bashing and submission attempts.
This is a VERY basic definition of rubber guard. I didn't even discuss over hooks and under hooks, but I just don't have that kind of time. If you'd like a more in depth explanation, I'd suggest you go here. Or, you could also watch the video below. Whichever suits your fancy is fine by me.

A little clarity
Eddie Bravo has developed Rubber Guard considerably, but it was Nino Schembri that invented it. It’s all about controlling posture by clinching the head and arms, before isolating one arm to attack.
Rubber guard gives Rogan a boner.
