UFC 120 Results and Merriment

Ufc_120_poster_medium

Donna and I have put ourselves in a complete media blackout so that we didn't see the UFC 120 fight results.  Won't you please stay and watch the fights with us?  Oh, and if you know what happened already please oh please don't spoil it for us.  If you do, we will hunt you down and hang you up by your hair.  Your pubic hair.

Star-divide

So I wasn't expecting to watch this fight.  I'm kind of grumpy because now every time I see Arianny I'm going to picture her naked.  So that's awesome.  Cyrille Diabate kind of reminds me of Elliot Marshall.  I just zoned out for most of the first round.  Alexander Gustafsson apparently took that one.  Sorry, I'll try to focus better.

Crap, I zoned out again.  Basically, the gist and far as I can tell is that Gustaffson is basically kicking Diabate's booty.  And now that I'm finally paying attention, Gustaffson submits Diabate.

Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne

Both of these guys are friggin' huge.  Travis Browne isn't wasting any time at the start of the round.  He's throwing some nasty punches.  Lucky for Cheick Kongo, none of them have landed.  Kongo's dancing around with some fancy steps and a couple of kicks.  Not to be outdone, Browne is getting some kicks in too.  Ouch, unlucky for Kongo.  Browne gets him with two nasty punches.  Kongo's looking slightly loopy now.

Kongo's kicking the crap out of Browne's legs in the beginning of round two.  Oops, he knees Browne in the junk.  Kongo is definitely looking better in this round.  I'm going to make a guess that Browne's thighs are going to look like 2 week old ground beef tomorrow.

Browne's breathing a little heavy before the start of round three.  They're in the clinch and Kongo's holding on to Browne's shorts.  The ref takes a point from Kongo.  That's gonna hurt.  It's good news for Browne though who's looking like he'd rather be napping.  Kongo continues to hold Browne's shorts but the ref doesn't take any more points.  The round ends right after Browne takes down Kongo.  And we have a friggin' draw.  How vomitous.

John Hathaway vs. Mike Pyle

It's nice to see a Brit fight an American without the gratuitous USA! USA! chants.  Although the Brits do give Pyle a hearty round of boos.  I haven't been focusing too much on the action in the first round because I'm too busy trying to figure out which one of these dudes we're going to make Pantydropper of the Week first.  The Gals are digging these two dudes.  Mike Pyle ends the round on top of John Hathaway.

So we have a pretty typical fight going on here.  Nothing too fancy.  Pyle starts to dominate with about 2 minutes left in round two.  Pyle's got Hathaway down and Pyle is punching the crap out of Hathaway's forehead.  He's not going to look too pretty tonight.

Round three isn't looking too much better for Hathaway.  On a positive note, I've just ordered some delicious Mexican food.  The fight is going to a decision and I have no doubt that we just saw Hathaway's first loss.  And we did.  Pyle wins by unanimous decision.

Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit

Oh my goodness, I'm so excited about this fight.  I couldn't love Dan Hardy more, and I think that Carlos Condit is going to give him a tough fight.  They keep talking about Condit's submission skills, however, if GSP couldn't submit Hardy, than I don't think that Condit will be able to do it.

Lots of punching and kicking in round one.  Condit nails Hardy with a couple of good ones.  Hardy smiles.  I sigh.  More kicking and punching.  Just when I think that I'm a bit bored, Condit knocks out Hardy.  Donna and I are heartbroken.  The Mexican food has come and I can't even be happy about it.  Suck.

Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama

Bisping walks out and I think it's safe to say that this is the first time he's been cheered on his way to the ring.  Donna and I just love him for stopping to give his wife a kiss.

Yoshihiro Akiyama gets Michael Bisping pretty good with a punch early in the first round.  Throw in a couple of nut shuts, some punches, a Bisping takedown attempt, a flying knee, Bispings inability to go to the right and some kicks and you have round one in a nutshell.

Round two and Bisping is finally going to the right.  Bisping's got the eye of the tiger and Akiyama looks a little gassy.  Yada, yada, yada.  Akiyama hurts Bisping at the end of the round.

Round three and Bisping gets Akiyama with a nasty nut shut.  Bisping's landing some nice punches and kicks this round.  They proceed to punch and kick the crap out of each other until the end of the round.  Bisping wins by unanimous decision.

diabate has good focus. His eyes dont move off of Gustaffason’s shoulders. I never realized that before. I think that mouth guard break might have just saved Diabate though.

I really want to poke his beard.

I saw him on a commercial on Versus the other day… for scent remover. I lost whatever respect I had for him that day.

Sheldon is a huge StarWars fan, he even thought it was a compliment when he was compared to C3PO.

All the jokes on the show are Trek jokes/discussions. I can’t remember hearing any Star Wars jokes. Or did you mean the actual person and not the Sheldon character?

I just mentioned a Star Wars joke.

They said Sheldon looked like C3PO and he was flattered.

It wouldnt hurt bisping to work on his footwork a bit.

by RachHeartsMMA on Oct 16, 2010 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

his forward movement is pretty good but to the sides and back its just not crisp enough. If you watch he pretty clearly not pushing off with the lead foot when he shoots backward. If Sexyama was smart he should shoot in when he does that. Its almost impossible to have balance when your leaning back like that.

This fight is exciting but both of them are getting a little sloppy on technique. Theres either technical or crazy haymakers and they are in some odd place in between. This is twilight zone weird.
