Dream Fight - Anderson Silva vs. Fedor Emelianenko

This week's Dream Fight comes to us from none other than Katie.  She has exquisite taste, which is evidenced by her deep love of Gals Guide to MMA.  Katie is no slouch herself.  Check out her site here.

Who's Fighting? Anderson Silva vs. Fedor Emelianenko (at a catch weight of 215)

Why? These two fighters are argubly the best two pound for pound fighters in MMA.  Anderson's only losses that weren't ref/judge dictated came from submissions, and Fedor is a Sambo champ.  We have seen a small weakness in Fedor's armor when it comes to really technical strikers, and Anderson has exhibited his striking ablitiy with laserbeam accuracy.  It would be entertaining to say the least to have these two completely dominant fighters face off

What Happens?  They dance around the Octagon for the first minute of the fight, trying to get a feel for their respective timings. (Yes, this would be in the Octagon, much to Dana's dismay)  Fedor will try to rock Anderson so he can stun him and lock in one of his signature submissions.  Anderson has the upper hand on agility, so he is able to duck and weave his way out of the first round.

Who Wins Anyway? Anderson.  He takes advantage of the fact that Fedor is slightly dehydrated due to the weight cut and channels his inner Ninja and nails Fedor with a counter-punch that stuns him.  He knows better than to bring the fight to the ground, so he goes in for the kill giving Fedor the same treatment that he gave our poor Forrest.

Why would it dismay Dana to have this in the Octogon?!?? Sounds like a license for him to print money to me.

Great fight – don’t think it will ever happen, much to the dismay of fans everywhere. A gold bar chair would be nice though.

I could see it

maybe after Silva finishes out his contract with UFC. But not before.

i rather see lesnar throw fedor into the corner, cover him like a russian bear

and then commence the beating of a lifetime just to see if fedor would tap out.

i'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. i was building a house, i don't deserve this, deserves have nothing to do with it. bang. "unforgiven"

This could be a good one. I’m thinking Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem myself.

Hmmmm

Perhaps you’d be willing to write that up and email it to me for next weeks Dream Fight?

Really?

I don’t understand how you could think Anderson Silva could win this fight
Granted this is MMA and anything can happen, and Anderson Silva is one of the three best pound for pound fighters in the world today, but Fedor is also on that top three list, and the styles simply dont match up.
Silva’s Achilles heel has always been his wrestling, which can be seen quite clearly in the Dan Henderson fight. Fedor on the other hand, is a world class wrestler (in two different wrestling styles, Judo and Sambo) with ground and pound skills that would make GSP jealous. Its true that Silva has an uncanny ability to punish anyone who gets near him, but equally uncanny is Fedor’s ability to survive and have a fight go his way. I’m a huge fan of both fighters, and I’m not saying Silva doesn’t have a chance, but he would certainly be an underdog.
As for the weight cut issue, Fedor is only 233 pounds, cutting down 18 pounds over a 8-10 week training camp shouldnt be a problem for a world class athlete who probably went through the weight cut process enough times while competing in Sambo and Judo.

fedor is also only 5 feet 11 inches tall too

i would think a.s would have a 50/50 shot at winning. as far as i’m concerned fedor is on the downswing of his career and his weakness is the cage, octogan. he looked really uncomfortable vs b.r in his first fight that i know of that took place in a cage rather than a ring. i think 3 of the current ufc hw’s could exploit this and maybe a.s. could too.
