What the Hell is Lay and Pray?
Lay and pray is a term used to describe a fighter who takes down his opponent and then lays on top of him to ride out the win. They will exhibit very little activity, besides an occasional punch to the side when the ref tells them to advance their position. You'll see wrestlers adopting this "strategy" most often. Unfortunately, due to the current scoring system, a fighter who uses lay and pray will often win the fight, just off the strength of a few takedowns. A classic example of a lay and pray fight is from TUF season 1 in which Josh Koscheck beats Chris Leben. Brock Lesnar also adopted this "style" in his recent fight against Frank Mir. Unfortunately for Mir, Lesnar's punches from that position were just devastating.
On a more personal note, nothing will make me dislike a fighter more than seeing him lay and pray his way through a fight (I'm talking to you CB Dollaway).
