UFC 102 - Thoughts and Ramblings

So we're checking out the results of the undercard as they happen and I really wish we had seen the Duffee Vs. Hague fight. 7 second knockout!?!?! I love that stuff. I can't wait until the undercard for UFC 103 is broadcast live on Spike. We'll keep this post going as the night goes on.
Fun Fact: Tonight will be only the 2nd time that Randy Couture has had a three round fight. 15 of his 16 previous fights have been with the belt on the line.
Undercard Results
Evan Dunham defeats Marcus Aurelio via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
Mark Munoz defeats Nick Catone via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28)
Todd Duffee defeats Tim Hague via knockout - Round 1, :07 **Fastest Knockout in UFC History**
Mike Russow defeats Justin McCully via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-26, 30-27)
Oopsy, Gonzaga delivers a nasty blow to Tuchscherer's cajones. Fight stops, hilarity ensues. What will happen? Stay tuned...and the fight continues. Gabriel Gonzaga defeats Chris Tuchscherer via TKO - Round 1, 4:27 - Wow, maybe you shouldn't have tried to man up on the nut injury. Oh well.
Aaron Simpson defeats Ed Herman via TKO (injury to left knee) - Round 2, :17
Hey 3 decisions out of 6 fights isn't too bad I guess. But still I hate to see so many decisions. BORING!!
Main Card
Vera Vs. Soszynski
Soszynski looks ridiculously jacked, Vera not so much. However Vera has something in his eyes that would have me running away at a dead sprint. Plus that lean strength can be deadly. Crowd is definitely getting restless, but I gotta say, I'd rather see two guys standing up and giving it what they've got instead of lying on top of each other on the mat. Soszynski just seems overmatched. Great, another decision. Man, I'm getting really sick of decisions. I'd rather see someone go in and give it all they've got and lose, then pussy foot around the ring for 3 rounds. Boo.
Vera defeats Soszynski via unanimous decision.
Marquardt vs. Maia
Maia got knocked the f**k out! I just had time to grab some salami and cheese and brother man was on the ground! It looked like Maia launched himself at Marquardt's fist. Oopsy.
Marquardt defeats Maia via Knockout - Round 1, :21
Leben vs. Rosholt
Rosholt getting a nice round of boo's from the crowd as he walks in. You'd think it's because he's fighting the hometown boy, but I think it's because of the dumb ass song that he's walking out to. Is that Enigma? Leben's not looking so good after Round 1. I'm hoping that he picks it up. I'm definitely rooting for him in this one. Leben's pulling out the old foot stomp in Round 2. I can't really think of any other fighters who do that. Not sure how I feel about it. It seems a little self-defense 101 to me. Round 2 is a big 'ole bore too. Snooze fest. And Leben is out and twitching! Creepy.
Rosholt defeats Leben via Submission - Round 3, 1:30
Silva vs. Jardine
Big rumor about Jardine coming out as Techno Viking. Could it be? I'm all aflutter with anticipation! And...big disappointment. Even Joe Rogan mentioned it! I will not let go of the dream. It will happen and it will rock. And...fight is over. Another beautiful knockout! I'm telling you, I look away for a millisecond and all the good stuff happens.
Silva defeats Jardine via Knockout - Round 1, 1:35
Couture vs. Nogueira
I asked Donna to become a UFC fighter so that I could walk out to the Octagon with her all twin-like just like Nogueira's brother does but she said no. She can be very selfish sometimes. This fight was an exhibition of two outstanding professional fighters. Every MMA fighter should be required to watch this fight as evidence of what MMA fans want to see. These guys came to battle and that's exactly what they did. Definitely one of the best fights I've ever seen.
Nogueira defeats Couture via unanimous decision
All in all I'm pretty pleased with tonight's event. I definitely got my moneys worth. I can't wait until UFC 103!
