The Ultimate Fighter Episode 7 Recap

What a chore it's become to watch this season of The Ultimate Fighter. During previous seasons, I couldn't wait to sit in front of my TV and see the fights and household drama. To be honest, if it wasn't for this site, I would probably pass over watching the new episodes in favor of catching Top Chef. But we know how much our dear readers count on our invaluable commentary, so here we are.
The fight announcement is made early, and it's no surprise that Matt Mitrione will be taking on Scott Junk, leaving Marcus Davis to fight Mike Wessel. Of course the fighters are mostly ignored in favor of another Jackson/Evans blow-up. It must have gotten tiring for the fighters to have to listen to these two go at each other anytime they were in the same room. It was kind of funny though how Evans said all that Jackson does is quit and talk. Oops! Kinda true in this case. I found it telling that during the fight, which I thought might actually result in genuine fist-a-cuffs, Evans entire team was standing behind him while Jackson's team just sat on the benches looking tired.
We finally had some good house drama this episode (though it paled in comparison to the pee fruit and sperm sushi issues of the past). Matt did some sort of "if you like me check the box" note passing to Junk about Wessel being scared to fight him, which pissed off the entire house. Mitrione has done everything possible to alienate his house mates and the coaching staff. This guy couldn't make a friend at an Up With People convention. Evans says Matt isn't all right upstairs, while Matt explains that fighting is the only way to silence the demons in his head. Umm.....how did this guy pass the psych test to get into the house?
The fight between Junk and Mitrione is another complete embarrassment. Mitrione hits Junk with a couple of good shots in the first round and Junk looks completely shocked. Both are gassed 3 minutes in, and with 1 minute left, Mitrione is literally gasping for air. Second round is completely pathetic. Junk takes Mitrione down for a little ground and pound that quickly turns into lay and pray. By the end, Mitrione can't even throw punches but rather bats his fist in Junk's general direction. Mitrione wins by decision. Rampage destroys a cardboard door...yawn.
To be honest, anyone watching this season who is unfamiliar with the UFC would be left with a very bad impression of heavyweight fighters. The vast majority of the fights so far have had the worst displays of cardio that I've ever seen. These guys aren't heavy weight athletes, but rather big dudes who want to be fighters. Just a complete embarrassment for those guys who are both heavyweights and athletes.
P.S. I kept seeing ads for UFC 106 all night advertising Lesnar vs. Carwin. I wish they would've pulled those ads cause it just made a bad show worse knowing I won't get to see that fight until January, if even then.

Got to say, watching Rampage destroy that door in seconds make me laugh out loud. Had to replay it. Twice!
Seems a lot of the fighters this season could learn a thing or two from Tito on conditioning. Hopefully its the adrenaline dump of first fght jitters and teh second round will be better. Don’ give up on ’em, Donna :)

I really hope they are doing a better job at screening fighters for the next season and go back to picking guys that actually want to fight…and CAN fight. I got up and checked the mail, facebooked, and vacuumed the floor during the fight last night. YAWN. Matt Mitrione is a piece of work. Rampage destroying the very HOLLOW door was amusing. I must say I did enjoy watching Rashad put Rampage on blast about quitting on his team.

I have to agree.. the whole hollow door ending was quite funny. I enjoyed Rashad calling Rampage a quitter.. but I also had a little snicker of glee when he was ripping into Mitrione after he had his little ‘rat snap’!!

It really takes away the impressiveness of his rampage (pun intended?) when you see that the door is basically cardboard. Maybe next week he’ll break a paper mache cinder block on his forehead!
